FitBit gone whacky

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I love my fitBit. Well did. she was always pushing me to take that extra step.. do better than the day before. Well now she has turned on me. First she wouldn't sync.  then out of the blue after close to 3 weeks she synced. But now she is refusing to count my steps. The other day I had 4 leaves and maintained that sprouting little flower for several hours uppacking boxes and putting items away. Well imagine my surprise when she told me I only did 523 steps. I mean yikes...

I am at a loss as to what to do. She may need hospice care....

Syncs when she feels like it, won't count my steps, pretends like I am sleeping all the time, won't fully charge...

I am lost.....

The first thing to try when a fitbit misbehaves like this is a restart:

Note though that this doesn't always work first time so give it a few tries.

Yes I did that everyday for almost 2 weeks several times a day. No help. I swear it has gone on strike.

Hi @marine617. Just to make sure that your previous attempts are restarting your One were successful, a successful restart should result in seeing "Fitbit 6.60" showing up on your One's display. If it didn't, then you'd have to repeat the process, perhaps holding the button down 20 seconds or so, until you get to see Fitbit 6.60 on the display. If, following a successful restart, you're still experiencing issues, then your best bet would be to contact the Support Team: http://help.fitbit.com/?l=en_US&cu=1&fs=ContactUs. Please let us know how it goes.

Yes it was successful each time I did it. I did check the forums and all of
the help guides to try to fix the issue before reaching out here.

What device are you syncing with @marine617? If a computer, tell us more about your configuration.

One more thing @marine617 - did you have a chance to try the troubleshooting tips discussed in this help document?

I sync both to my computer which has Windows 10 ( has been on this computer
for a long time so that is not the issue.) I also sync with my phone that
is an android.
The only thing I have not done is a full reboot. My Aria scale syncs with
no issue at all to both of them.

Hi @marine617. I just read this thread over and I am not clear if the issue is about your Fitbit One tracker not recording your steps; or if the issue is about syncing. Can you pease confirm whether or not the One is recording your steps correctly; and if so, please tell us what is the time and date stamp for your last successful sync. If you have a sync issue, is it only with the phone, or just the computer, or both?

The other point I'd like to mention is that although your tracker can syn with many different devices (phones, tablets, computers, etc.), it can only have a live connection with one device at a time. Fitbit trackers use a single-channel Bluetooth connectivity; such that you would have to turn off Bluetooth on your phone to free up the BT channel in order to sync to your Win 10 computer.

Hi again @marine617. I just looked at your profile, and it looks like you haven't been able to sync for quite some time. Here's what I'd like you to try.

  1. Turn off Bluetooth on your phone.
  2. Back to your computer, sign-off your fitbit account.
  3. Plug in the Fitbit dongle and wait for the system to recognize it - I know, you're not supposed to need the dongle with Win 10, but just humour me for now.
  4. Go to the fitbit set up page and download the legacy Fitbit Connect program for Windows PC (you currently have the Win 10 version of the Fitbit app - not to worry, both version can co-exist just fine on the same computer.)
  5. Run Fitbit Connect (it will show as such in your All Apps list as opposed to just Fitbit for the Fitbit app for Win 10)

Let's see if this worked before we tackle the phone. Hope it does - cheers!

Okay issue #1 was that the unit would not sync. Didn't sync for about 3
weeks. I did everything it said in the help guide. After the 3 weeks it
just all of a sudden synced.

Then I noted after a full day of walking I had 4 leaves of activity but
when I looked at the steps only had a bit more than 200 steps.

SO it is once again syncing after taking a long hiatus. But now it is not
counting my steps accurately.

My FitBit One is behaving similarly. It is failing to count steps reliably and also misses tracking sleep events as well. This is despite multiple restarts. My personal opinion is that this may be a result of a recent update. I believe that there was one that was intended to extend battery life. My device acts like it is going to sleep and has to be aggressively woken up in order to operate properly...for a while. My suspicion is that the "going to sleep" is a result of the update's attempt to reduce the device activity in order to extend the battery life. While I have really enjoyed my FitBit for years now, I'm about ready to throw it away and try a different brand.

The exact same thing happened with my One following the update
