Fitbit One Battery Life reduced since September 2019 change?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Do we have any verification that something has changed this month (September 2019) that is negatively impacting the battery life of our Fitbit One trackers?  I've also been having the sync issues other people have commented on, but but have been manually restarting my One using the charging cable connected to a PC USB port and holding the button down for 10-12 seconds.  I've been able to get the syncing working again for a day or two at a time.  That's still not good, but what is perhaps more alarming is the sudden severe drop in battery life.  Are you seeing this as well?  Has Fitbit acknowledged this?  I am only syncing the One with a single Android phone with an updated Fitbit app, version 3.6.1.

Seeing as there are a lot of us who dont want  a wrist based item and are having charging and synching issues, I suggest we send them a LOT of feedback. Daily emails, whatever. I know they aren't supporting the One and I agree they are probably trying to coerce us all to buy new products but they DON'T have a non-wrist based rechargable that does stairs and can get rained on... So if we let them know by sheer volume and persistence that there are a lot of us that there is a market of people that they stand to lose when a working product suddenly fails to chatge and synch, they lose money because we go elsewhere...

maybe they will develop a product for the market...

Same issue. I've assumed it had something to do with the latest app update. My one just instantly drained almost. Went from making it 10 days between charges to not even 24 hours. No low battery warning, just dead. I enjoy not having to charge something everyday and having a more accurate step count at the waist. I have a versa, but it is clearly not as accurate as the one. If I wanted to charge something everyday, I'd get a galaxy watch or apple watch. Fitbit is slowly killing itself with this.

I see that Fitbit have released ver 3.8 overnight.  Has anyone updated to this version and does it solve the battery problems?  I have not updated unless I can be sure the battery problems have been fixed.as my ver 3.6.0 gives me plenty of battery time.

OK, I recharged the Fitbit One replacement battery this morning - it lasted 5 days with all the synchronisation options turned on and a daily silent alarm.

Having said that, it still doesn't sync automatically, so I'm going to turn off the 'All-Day Sync' and 'Always Connected' to see if that makes a difference.

Contacted Fitbit Support again yesterday after my "battery drain test" (where I fully charged my battery and it died in 2 days) and spoke with Sarah. It was a complete waste of time. Not sure if there was a language barrier, but all she did was literally deflect - first she kept saying "it's already a known issue on iOS", even though I already told her this was on Android. Then she said there couldn't be an issue with the app on Android because there's a "known issue" ONLY on iOS! I didn't understand the logic that issues can only be valid if they're "known issues", and pointed her to this entire message board to say there is clearly an issue with Android but she didn't care.

She later said it had to be a faulty device because "Our apps are being continuously updated and improved" so it can't be the app. (Wait if there's nothing wrong with the app why are you improving them?) When I told her the device isn't faulty because I literally just got 10 days out of it last week when I uninstalled the app from the phone so the app must be the thing draining the battery, she had no answer to that and basically just told me she could give me 25% off the Mullbery color of the Fitbit Versa Lite. I wish I was kidding but nope, that was all I got after an hour of chat.

I kinda want to raise heck on Fitbit's Facebook page but if you take a look at it, it's entirely filled with irate people complaining about the apps and their various devices. It's kinda hilarious. Anyways, I guess for now I'll stick to syncing using the USB dongle every Sunday night to log my steps and still preserve my battery life, unless someone here can come up with a better idea.

The new app version seems to have fixed my problem. I'm at 2 days and 75% whereas before the update I wasn't even getting 24 hours

Thanks for that, I've just upgraded and we'll see how we go.

I had uninstalled the old version of the Android Fitbit app and put the newest available back on over a week ago.  My phone automatically updated up to the version 3.8 a few days ago when it became available.  I'm not sure it's made much of a difference, but what I am finding is that since Fitbit changed the sync method of the app, more syncs seem to take place than ever before and I think that is draining our trackers' batteries.  I've been logging my charging times and taking note of certain behaviour with the tracker and the app.  I've disabled "All-Day Sync" and "Always Connected", but most importantly I've been fully closing out of the Fitbit App itself when not in use.  By that I mean I back out of the app as most people do, but then I open my active background apps in Android and swipe away the Fitbit app to fully close it off.  I think doing this has reduced the amount of syncing my phone and the tracker does.  As a result I've been getting about 5 days use.  For example, I had four days without charging and was down to 35% battery showing in the app before I decided to charge it again, so likely would have gotten another day out of it if I had waited.  Not great, but better than having to charge it every day.  I believe the app is syncing more often because users of the newer tracker models need a constant sync for the functionality of the watch models to display notifications and such.  We don't need or necessarily want that with a Fitbit One.  My suggestion to everyone is to try to keep the Fitbit App closed (and not running in the background) to see if the sync frequency is reduced and correspondingly, battery life increased.  This goes along with what was posted before about having the mobile app uninstalled completely with the result being improved battery life.  I think we're at the point now where we're quite sure it is the app and sync frequency that is draining the batteries; certainly not all of us having failed/defective batteries all at once.

Interesting theory.  I run mine on all day sync but not always connected and I always close the app down after use so it is not running in the background.  I am charging my Fitbit One up right now and will see how long I get, as I was certainly getting well over a week from the battery.

Swiping away the app from the current apps list doesn't necessarily kill the app, particularly if it runs a Bluetooth sync service. To be sure of killing it you need to go to Apps &Notifications and 'Force Stop' it.

So far, 48 hours after fully charging and upgrading to Android version 3.8, my Fitbit has used up 10% of the battery and no problems synching.  Looks like problem solved.

Hi...thank you! I have version 6.64  from 2017 and want to upgrade  to 3.8 for Android. I am having trouble finding the information for that. Would you please post it. Thank you so much.Sent from Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

Version 6.64 is the firmware version, which is the latest version.  Open the app and click on your profile picture.  Go down the page past devices, then goals, and you will get to help.  Click on help and it will tell you the version you are running.  if it is not ver 3.8, go to Google Play Store and click on the three bars at the top left, then go to My Apps and Games.  Click on the update arrow and you should get the latest version to download.

Although I'm not happy so many others are having this same, recent, issue...I am happy i found this thread.  My One has recently developed  this same battery issue, going from 2 weeks charge to barely a day.  I just checked my version, and it's 3.8, updated 10/19/19, but it has NOT solved the battery issue even a little.  May have to look e,elsewhere for a clip-on tracker if my One croaks.

I have tried the new app, the version back in August as well, and no matter what the battery drains from 100% at 5pm then by morning it's dead or almost dead. When I charge it, the battery shows it's at 100% but when I restart and plug back in it shows only partly charged.

I don't know if it's that my Pixel 3 updated to the latest OS or both. It's very frustrating. I don't really want to buy an Inspire and an optional clip. Really bummed on this.

I previously uninstalled the app from my phone and just synced using the USB dongle on my desktop to stop the battery drain. This time I just made sure to kill the app between syncs (in Android, go to Settings - Apps - find "Fitbit" - and choose "Force Stop".) I did this about a week ago and my Fitbit is still alive and well.

I would try to contact Fitbit via chat and complain as well - alot of us have already tried and didn't get anywhere, but if enough people complain, hopefully they'll implement a fix into the next update.

Totally agree with neal2zod... for those of you who are having REALLY bad battery life, please try uninstalling your Fitbit app from your phone for at least a few days and see what happens with your Fitbit One.  I'm getting about 4-5 days on a full charge by being very careful not to leave the Android app running in the background.  If you have the app completely closed or not installed you will be able to figure out if your One is able to keep a charge without syncing, which is the likely cause of the battery drain.
