My One has started giving me many flights of stairs when I have walked no flights. How would I fix this problem?

Welcome to the forums!

Floors are counted using an altimeter. An altimeter is a sensor that calculates altitude based on atmospheric pressure and atmospheric pressure decreases with increasing elevation, so the it calculates elevation gain based on the reduction in atmospheric pressure. Your trackers register a floor when they detect continuous motion combined with an elevation gain of about 10 feet. Given the fact that 10 feet is an average between residential and commercial floor heights, although commercial floors in particular tend to be higher than residential floors.

It will add floors when it is windy or cold.

Looking forward to seeing you around the forums!

Thanks, but that is not the situation. I put the One on in the morning, walk sleepily to my chair in the living room, on same floor, and the Stairs will say “5”. I just did a restart to see if that corrects it.

@Walkjob Welcome to the Fitbit family! Thanks for taking the time to report the situation you are experiencing with your One tracking floors climbed all of a sudden. Thanks for performing a restart on your tracker.

In this case, the restart should definitely help you out with this. It will refresh your tracker's inner components and should make it better.

Please do let me know if this resolves the issue.

@WendyB Thank you very much for sharing this important information about floors climbed.

Hi all! Nope, got up this morning, put it on my pj waistband and next
thing I know, that cup of coffee and GMA had quickly given me 6 flights of
stairs. The restart did not help! Hah, well, no worry, the rest of the
statistics seem to be working accurately. Flights aren’t a huge deal in my
fitness goals. I got my One in 2015, March, so it’s soon to be 4 years
old. And I’ve never had a problem with it, wearing it all day every day.
I will be heartsick when it dies and can’t get another! So, please start
making them again! I love my One, and don’t want to wear something on my
wrist.
Thanks for your interest in my little problem.

My ONE is 3 years old or so and has never given me trouble. Yesterday, on an elliptical trainer in a non-windy, non-cold gym I was doing some VO2 max intervals and the darn altimeter counted 29 floors. I was watching it. Today I was on a treadmill, sometimes with incline (which does not change elevation) and I recorded 39 flights of stairs. I wear the fitbit on a wristband on my wrist or tucked into my sports bra and have done so for a long time. It is tucked into my bra when I'm using gym equipment.  I did try a restart, and will let you know if it helps. What else could cause this? Altimeter shot?
