Help with smartphone app exercise tracker

I am trying to run 3 miles a day at my gym which has a tiny little track where one mile is 11 laps. I like the feedback feature on the smartphone app exercise tracker where it gives you updates every mile on pace, distance, and time, and I would like to be able to use this to help me keep track of my progress however because the track I am running is so small the GPS refuses to acknowledge that I am moving at all and won't record the milage and therefore won't give me that feedback when I run.

 

So my question is: is there a way to use my fitbit one's milage counter instead of the GPS feature? If not, does anyone know of an app that will do this?

I'm not aware of anything,  but want to point out that GPS does not work very well inside buildings.

Hi @Kvannice. I agree with @Rich_Laue - GPSs do not do well inside buildings or in busy downtown cores populated with highrises, or under heavy foliage. It will not do well when you're going in circle using a small training track because the perimeter is too small for the GPS satellites to track your movements.

 

My suggestion is to do away with the app and the smarphone and just use your Fitbit One. The first thing that you need to do is to calculate your stride lengths, using the instructions in the following help document: Stride Length. Then go to Settings and make the changes for both walking and running stride lengths, making sure to save your changes before you leave the page and force a sync; otherwise the changes will not take effect.

 

Once back on your training track, wear your Fitbit One on your torso in such a way as to facilitate a quick glance at the display - my T-shift collar works well for me. At the start and end of your walk, press and hold the button to start and stop the timer; with the timer active during your run, clicking the button on your One will allow you to see where you stand. It won't give you pace, but it will give time, steps, distance and burn.

 

I do use an app called Seconds Pro for walk/jog interval workout - but that's because I like the audio prompts for when to change from walk to jog and vice versa. But for just walk and jog workouts, the One on its own serves me just fine.
