Is Fitbit One being discontinued?

For the second time in a year I lost my Fitbit One.  When I go to replace it, I see the major local stores, Target, Walmart, Best Buy no longer carry it and even on Amazon, only the black model readily available.  Is the Fitbit One being discontinued and if so, is it being replaced?

I was really interested in your findings as my husband has a charge2 and when we go out together and try to check and compare our steps he always beats me by a mile despite the fact that I take smaller steps and have to hop and skip to keep up. Interesting that no one from Fit bit has replied with advice.

This morning I went on Fitbit.com and chatted online with Aundria. I told her my disappointment about the Fitbit One being discontinued and suggested that Fitbit management take a look at the Fitbit One community forum board and see what we're saying about bringing it back or making another product similar to the ONE. (By the way, this thread has the most post than all the others!) She did say "Our design team actually monitors the feedback left on our community page". She also said she would let her people know. Let's hope our voices are heard!!! #BRINGBACKTHEONE

Well, kiss the ONE goodbye, because the good people at Fitbit have decided that it's not necessary--and that we're supposed to be happy with the ZIP now.

Hope they are listening, a good idea to go on chat,

If I remember right from looking at Fitbit's quarterly report they were reporting that 81% of their sales came from new products.  This means 19% would be coming from Legacy products.  Given they updated most of their wrist devices and their scale over the last couple of years, I would speculate a pretty good chunk of that 19% was Zip's and One's.  Given the fact, I rarely see someone wearing a zip and frequently see them wearing One's, I would guess the One was still accounting for a fairly good size portion of sales.

I care about earnings as that impacts the people who work at (not senior leadership) Fitbit, and their shareholders.  It appears a lot of the funds that are big in IRA's and 401K's hold pretty good share of the stock.  I hate to see retirees and people saving for retirement to get hurt.

Part of why I want to make clear my position on wanting the One, is I fear a decision is made that is bad for customers, shareholders, and the good employees that have worked to draw people like us to Fitbit.  With top line revenues (mostly driven by sales and shipments) down so much from last year through this same time, it just seems odd they would do something that could further hurt that top line number.

I sure hope what she told you was true.  I posted on the Fitbit  Facebook page my disappointment that they were discontinuing the One. This was their reply:

" Though Fitbit One is a popular product, we are always working to streamline our offerings as we introduce new products. We're constantly striving to improve Fitbit products and services, which sometimes results in existing products changing. We appreciate your feedback and will do our best to make sure this product is aligned with your interests."

Sounds like a lot of double talk to me.

Amazon sells third party bands for the one so you can wear it on your wrist when you want.

@Ruthbear, the One will continue to be supported on the web, on the apps, and through Customer Support, even after it is discontinued.

Fitbit is still supporting devices it discontinued years ago.  You definitely don't need to worry on that score.  Fitbit will not develop updates for the One and replacement products eventually will no longer be available.  Those are the only changes you will see.

Canned response. I got the same via email. Hopefully Fitbit is hearing us and will develop another clip on device!

They already have plenty of wrist trackers  you can buy. We like the One because it's not worn on the wrist. You can clip it on anywhere.

Very inconvenient!  The One is no longer available on your website.  4 years and now leaving FB, along with many others.

I posted my comment on the Fitbit FB page and got the same canned response from them as follows:

We appreciate the feedback, Jan. Although Fitbit One is a popular product, we are always working to streamline our offerings as we introduce new products, which are coming this year. Fitbit One is no longer available on http://Fitbit.com and retail partners. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope we can continue to provide you with Fitbit devices you love and help you reach your goals. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Bottom line is that the newer wrist units don't really cost
significantly more to make than the One (and, with the exception of the
newest device, don't really do any more than the One) but can be sold
for a much higher price, so that's where FitBit is going to put it's
production capacity. They assume you will buy what they want to sell
you and they really don't give a hoot about what you need or want. It's
not going to matter how much we complain or how legitimate your
arguments are, FitBit really doesn't care if it thinks it can get you to
pay 50% more for something more profitable that even if it doesn't fit
your needs.

Wouldn't be so bad if they'd at least make a clip like the clip for the
One that you could use with some of the wrist units by taking the wrist
bands off, but that probably isn't very profitable either. There are
some being manufactured by third parties and sold online, mostly on
Amazon, but they seem to be pretty cheap and unreliable.

I am extremely disappointed that you discontinued the fit bit One.  There are a lot of us tat can not wear anything on the wrist.  Now you don't give US a choice!

Best Answer

Very disappointing. The Fitbit one was a superior device and very very tiny but still loaded with many features (counting  floors etc.)

The ZIP looks a gadget for kids in comparison and doesn't have the same feature.

Any wrist device is irrelevant for me as the form factor is not the same. Incompatible with any luxury watch for example .

I really really hope fitbit will bring back support for the One ... or will introduce a Two

Hi,

The zip is not near as feature rich and is an unacceptable answer for a replacement to the one.  We are a family of user and some like wrist while 4 of us do not (3 of which are in medical field and do not want to wear on wrist while taking care of patients.

Will a more feature rich version of ONE becoming out?

It is clear Fitbit is going to do what they want.  They have marked this as solved, and the bulk of us that have been communicating don't see it as solved.  When Fitbit has responded, they haven't really told us more than the fact the "One" is discontinued which we already knew.  I believe many of us would like someone to build something that replaces the One and gives us the ability to track our activity over time.  I suggest we reach out to other Fitness tracker companies and let them know of our dissatisfaction.  I reached out to the following companies and the following is what I wrote.  Perhaps others of you would like to do something similar to at least alert them to the fact there is a market out there.  I have reached out to:

- Misfit

- Lintelek

- Garmin

The following is what I wrote,

"Today I use a Fitbit One and love this device. The Fitbit web site indicates this product is being discontinued. There are a number of people who indicate they don't want a wrist device and they want both step and stair. Do you have anything like this or will you be introducing anything like this?"

When they responded they didn't, I then wrote the following:

If you talk to your development people, tell them to replicate the One as close as they can. They will likely quickly pick-up a number of Fitbit customers."

Take care all of you Fitibt One advocates!

Does fitbit product marketing understand what it "stop using the One and move to a wrist device"  for people who have a luxary watch (Breitling, Omega, etc.)?

There are only two options:
OPTION 1 - quit fitbit
OPTION 2 - stop using the luxery watch and put the expensive thing in a drawer

...guess what they will choose.

OK I guess those customers are maybe a "niche" set of users that fitbit may decide to accept to loose. But those customers would certainly be ready to pay for fitbit premium subscriptions (at least if they get strong added value services like advanced dashboard to analyze their data compared to the mass data, better export, ...)
