Mileage error

I keep track of steps and mileage on another app so I know the step count and mileage is accurate there, however, the mileage shown on my community groups is about half the mileage on my other app.  What is the deal?  When I walk 16 miles I only get credit for 8.  It shows the number of steps I need for the 16 miles and I don't suddenly have a stride length of 13" so I am not very happy at the moment.  Our challenges are set up for mileage not just steps.  I cannot hope to compete properly if I don't get proper credit for the miles too.

A warm welcome to the Community @Lisa_Marie. Thanks for the details that you've mentioned. Each app uses a different algorithm and this is why, it might not show you the same information.

I would like you to make sure that your personal information is properly entered on your Dashboard. You can also learn more about it:

I have done already all the things you suggested.  Still incorrect mileage reported in the community groups.  I tried switching to kilometers and it is still incorrect there.  Please attend to this matter.  My reason for being here is to compete and get healthier not to be bogged down with errors.

So let's then manually set the stride. Most people are not average and Fitbit assumed that they are.

If 13 inches have you a distance that was half of what it should be, let's change the stride to 26 inches.

I have already done that.  I check and recheck everything before ever coming here for help.  None of it has changed a thing.  I am NOT the only one complaining of this happening.  Why cannot this be fixed?  It has been an ongoing issue for many for a long time.  I am more than a little frustrated and can not join a single challenge that is based on leaderboard mileage from the activity group.  All members in the group access the leaderboard to see their standings in the group.  We can see our standings assuming that we ALL have incorrect mileage, however, it is important in the group to HAVE correct mileage shown and it is NOT.

Most Fitbit leaderboards are based on steps, not distance.

Are you saying the distance is only off on the group leader board?

Best Answer

The distance on the dashboard is correct and the distance shown on the leaderboards is half what the dashboard shows.  Seems like the algorithm is off a bit.  I double checked my stride, I added up the daily mileage, added up my daily steps and multiplied it by stride length and I got the proper distance.  Leaderboard shows half the distance.  Should it not simply copy over the accumulated distance from the dashobard figures?

@Lisa_Marie  could you post a screen shot of this leaderboard? The only leaderboard I know of with Fitbit only shows step counts, not distance.

It is the same for the Fitbit apps version of the leaderboard

Thanks for following up with @Rich_Laue! I appreciate all the settings that you've checked. It's pretty weird that your distance is showing properly on your Dashboard but then on your leadboard is half.

I would like you to provide me with a screenshot of what you're seeing on your Dashboard as mentioned by @Rich_Laue, this can help me to create a case on your behalf with support and they can continue assisting you.

I'll be waiting for your reply.

I don't know if you can see it but the center column on the leaderboard is mileage and average mileage per day for March to date.  I hope this helps show what the  problem is.  There is over a 5 mile descrepency.  activities.jpgleaderboard.jjpg.jpg

What address are you seeing this leader board at? It looks like the old style group discussions at https://www.fitbit.com/groups and not the leaderboard with your friends which is what I thought.

Hi @Lisa_Marie and @Rich_Laue, nice to see you back here. Please take my apology for the delayed response.

@Rich_Laue thanks for jumping in and for your posts. I really appreciate them.

@Lisa_Marie  as you stated on your first post, besides from Fitbit, you also keep track with another App.

Would you please clarify if the activities (steps and distance) in question, are being tracked with a Fitbit tracker or watch or vie the Fitbit App?

Are you running the other App while tracking the steps in question?

I'll be expecting your reply!

The other website I use is Walking4Fun and it uses the steps from my fitbit tracker.  It shows the proper mileage as does the dashboard.  The problem lies in the leaderboard on the fitbit activity groups and how the mileage is reported incorrectly.  There seems to be somekind of problem between the dashboard and the leaderboard.
