All of a sudden the amount of steps I'm taking is not on my phone. The steps are on my fit bit but not my phone .

try to force sync to your phone. Tap on devices and it should start syncing

I totally agree with @WendyB's suggestion, maybe your tracker is not syncing correctly with your phone. If force syncing doesn't work, you can follow the steps provided in this thread.
