Awake time during sleep

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I was in bed 8 hours, yet my Charge 2 says I was awake 1 hour 19 min. How could I possibly be awake at times for 13 or 14 min. and have absolutely no recollection of it? I understand the being awake short, like 1 min. times as it probably just means I turned over.

Any ideas on how this is possible?

Thank you,

Julie

Hi @jlsbo it's nice to see you again participating in the Community Forums, thank you for bringing this to my attention. My apologies for the delay in responding your post.

Let me share with you that it’s normal to see awake minutes in your sleep stages; studies have shown a typical adult could wake up briefly between 10-30 times per night (source). You may not remember waking up since you likely fell right back to sleep, especially if you were awake for less than 2-3 minutes at a time. If you wake up in the morning feeling like you had a restless night, you may notice more awake minutes in your sleep stages as compared to other nights.

If you previously tracked sleep with Fitbit, your log included the time spent awake, restless, and asleep. We’ve fine-tuned the mechanism we use to track sleep in order to estimate your sleep stages by including heart rate and other data. As a result, we’ve combined the time you spend awake and restless into total awake minutes to give you a better sense of your sleep cycles.

You may notice more awake minutes in sleep stages than in your previous sleep data due to this change. If you're concerned about meeting your Fitbit goals, you can edit your sleep goal to make sure you still hit it. For instructions, see How do I track my sleep?. Note that sleep stages aren't affected by the sleep sensitivity setting on your device. For more information, see How do I track my sleep?

Let me know if you have any additional questions, I'll be around.

I understand the many small increments of awake time. Could you please explain the part about having multiple 10+ minute awake times that you know are not occurring? For example, last night it said I was awake 6 times for longer than 5 minutes and 3 times for longer than 10 minutes. For a combined total of 1 hour and 30 minutes out of 8.5 hour. I will even pretend like the ones between 5 and 10 minutes are just me moving postions and the watch not figuring out when I've settled, but 10 and even 16 minutes of being awake at a time? Unreasonable.
