Bizarre Calories

Just started using my wife's Charge 4 a couple of days ago after switching to Android and giving up my Apple Watch. I unpaired it from her phone and set it up on mine - no factory reset performed.

I installed the Fitbit app and entered my height and weight. The calories stated burnt so far are frankly ridiculous. On my Apple Watch it would be a daily figure of 4-600. On the Fitbit it's into the thousands ! I'll be dead or severely malnourished in a month if that's accurate !

When I look in the app to days when I didn't own it and my wife wasn't wearing it there is a constan figure of 1395.

Any ideas ? The steps count and heart zone count are much more in line with what's expected but it's the calories that if I can't resolve will mean I get a different watch as that's just unusable.

If you click on the calories circle near top of Today screen of phone, you get bar chart of calorie burn throughout day in 15 minute intervals that you can read out as you touch.  If look at overnight while asleep, they should be at constant minimum.  That would be your BMR value and multiply that out to full day, (15 minute value X 96) to get daily BMR calorie burn.  Any above that is from your added activity.  There is no simple setting to have it just not include BMR calorie burn.  An alternative would be if you just didn't wear it for a day, midnight to midnight, see the calorie burn reported, but it would be same as calculated from sleep, maybe off a few calories from rounding.

I haven't used Apple Watch but an certainly see the confusion switching, but would suppose including BMR would be important for figuring dietary input.  But anyway this is just what I am used to now.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Fitbit includes BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) calories - what you always burn just to stay alive, based on age, weight, ...  That would have been the 1395 credited to your wife even when not wearing it, figuring she's burning those even with no other activity.

Thank you .So it's fundamentally different to Apple Watch in the way it calculates, okay I will take that into account and see how it over a few weeks. I wear it to sleep too as I did with my AW. Is there a way to see what has been calculated as BMR and what has come through day-day activity?

That's really helpful. It seems to show 15:calories every 15 mins overnight which is 1440. Still taking that away from the total figureisba much higher calorie count compared to an Apple Watch but at least it's still less.

Will see how I get on with it.
