Calories left different between screens.

Dashboard shows calories left as one number then when I go to log food screen, the calories left is a different number. I have no deficit. This just started today after an update.

For example, it's currently 12am and my dashboard is showing 1687 calories left. This is estimating what I am going to burn off  for the entire day (minis my deficit 500 cals) based on my average daily calorie burn. My food widget displays zero as obviously I haven't actually burnt off any calories yet as it's only just reset for the day

The only thing is they were always the same until after an upgrade and for my iPhone friends that never changed.. they are still the same on the dash and tile.
Thx for responding tho.

Thank you.   This makes sense but you are right - not really labeled or explained in the app to make it easy to know this.

I figured it out!  The screen on the dashboard is showing you how many calories left for the total day you have left (it's an estimate depending if you burn more or less) and when you click on the calorie info it is showing how many left to be in the green (aka your goal zone) at the time you're checking in.  So for instance I have about 880 calories to be in the green atm but I'll be able to have 1600 total before the end of the day.

I was wondering if it was something like this. This will actually work well for me considering my job is part sitting, and part physical.

This is to ensure we still eat enough to fuel our bodies each day.

I wish to consume at least 1200 calories a day. So the first tile is showing that amount in total (eg. 200 in, 1000 left - the total is my 1200 calories I need to consume in a day).

The second screen shows how many calories you've actually burnt, and how many you have left before you enter your Green zone.

So I aim to eat 1200 each day, and I aim to burn 2400 each day. And I aim to be in a calorie deficit of 750 each day.

So I will eat as much as I want until I'm at (2400 burned cals minus 750 deficit = 1650 cals to consume) my Green zone, and I can be assured that I have consumed at least 1200 calories (not starving myself and fuelling my body sufficiently). If I eat less than my 1650 allowance based on my food plan, that's a bonus and I'm in more of a deficit but at least I know I didn't starve myself because I'd hate to start losing muscle mass. Does this make sense?

Basically, does screen gives us a goal of how much to fuel up with, second screen tells us how to stay in our zone.

Does = first* (sorry)

Hi, I would just like to note here that this thread was started years ago. I no longer use Fitbit as I've found a far better application and watch to use. Cheers

Yes, I realise.. however, as this is still a current issue, others in the Fitbit community will be seeking answers too, like I was, which is what led me here today 🙂

I have the same issue going on. Fitbit chat service gave me and answer and it makes no sense as the numbers do not add up. For example. I have a deficit set for 750 calories and neither screen ever shows my calories based around that. Fitbit needs a clear answer or they need to fix the issue!!

it has been quite awhile since all this started in'17, me and MissPlush moved on from Fitbits predictive incorrect "guessing" and onto Samsungs line of Sports watches. Mainly the point was the poor quality of the straps causing physical harm, we couldn't wear any of the offical straps for more than afew days without breaking out in a rash no matter how many times we cleaned it and the overpriced tag for flimsy replacements meant that it was cheaper in the long-run to buy a more expensive watch and not replace anything. Which is something that has happened; in the 2 years of using fitbit we went through 2 iterations ( charge and charge 2 ) the "Charges" had to be replaced each because the screen died and wouldn't show anything, extra straps were bought for the "charge2" because the medical issues with the plastic ones and even they broke at the clasp within months.Bought a Samsung Active when they were released and never looked back, the plastic strap is still going strong during workouts and a manual labour job, my Leather one is a great "dress" strap.

It's sad that we, as a community have to figure something out that should've been rolled out and explained in some sort of patch notes so we can talk and debate. What's more surprising, that 4 years later, people are still coming to this thread because they're searching for the same information as we pioneers did when they rolled out the new UI. 😄 Four years of updates, patches, bugfixes and changes, yet this thing in which we can only call a "feature" was implimented and not explained to the point in which even customer service didn't have a clue about it.

I got the e-mail saying that Fitbit was aquired by Google, can't say i'm surprised but I'm glad I got out because that would've been the nail in the coffin for me.

Good Luck everyone, I hope you can find something of a balance because to be honest, it seems easier to write it down and just use myfitnesspal for the calorie intake of food and a calculator. 😛

Same issue, charge 4, years later.  I chatted with 2 CS reps and neither could even understand what I was telling them.  There's a lot to like about Fitbit, but the CS is terrible.  I had an issue with a previous Fitbit and after hours of back and forth troubleshooting they told me to buy a new one.  Ugh.

Ok so it's March 1st 2022, 5 years since this error was first reported. It's crazy that this error still exists. I'm glad Fitbit don't write banking apps. Come on get this this fixed!

I used FitBit back in 2016. Just came back to it and beyond irritated by this discrepancy!

There are 5 years of complaints on here. This shouldn't be a hard fix.

Hi, I am going through all the replies here, but the explanations are just not helping my not-good-with-numbers brain. Can someone just tell me which of the "left for the day" numbers I need to "obey" in order to lose a few pounds. I assume it's the one in the food log page -- the one accessed by clicking on the green apple icon in the "Today" page? I would post a photo but I am not allowed.

Mine currently says "204 calories in – 861 calories out" and "407 left for the day." It wants me to eat only ~600 calories in a day? I am sorry, I just don't get it and I am so frustrated! (My green apple on the "Today" page says 1,017 calories left.")

That is calories left at that point in the day I believe. As the day goes
on, you burn more, therefore are able to intake more.

Thank you, Eddies715. I find that most of the dashboard makes sense to me, but that part was unclear (to me, anyway). But what is the larger "calories left" number? Is that what a person needs to maintain the same weight?

Right now, on my phone app, the green apple says "419 calories left" and when I click that apple, I see "157 calories left for the day. Meanwhile, on my laptop in the food page in the dashboard, it says that I "can still eat 219 calories more."

Wow...  after 5years the same fundamental issue still exists and has not been sorted!... amazing.
The tile and the app are clearly not using the same calc from the calorie deficit.
Fitbit's a good product but the firm needs a CTO who can triage the key functionality.

Well it’s been 5 years and still no fix for this? I just bought an Inspire 2 and I’m having this same issue.

To anyone still searching for the answer, clicking the Learn More button on the food logging page next to the calorie estimates will bring you here. There is a setting you can change if you prefer to change the way the calories are estimated:
