Does anyone know why my challenge steps for a day is different to the actual steps?

The challenge total excludes any steps that were not directly tracked by your fitbit. So, any steps from manually logged activities or from syncing to other apps do not count. Could this be the issue here?

No. It happens during the day, usually Saturday. It is only on the one device and one app.

No it's only on one device and one app. Over two days it's around 1000 steps down.

If the person who started the challenge is in andifferent time zone, only steps done during the challenge period in their time zone will count.  For example I have a friend in Europe, 6 hours difference, when she invites me to one, my steps start counting at 6pm the previous night, but stop counting at 6pm on the last day.
