Charge 2 not syncing sleep

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

For the last week my Charge 2 has not synced my sleep properly, today it will not do it all.  I have restarted my phone, re started my watch, turned off blue tooth and checked i have the latest version of the app.  Is this just me or is it a common problem - and does anyone know how I can fix it?

This has happened to me the last two weeks too. No syncing for the pst two days and two weeks ago, it only synced like three days the whole week. Heart rate data is there. Don’t know what gives.

Hey guys, @Chelleomi and @Jane.E, let me give you a warm welcome to the Community! If your Charge 2 doesn't seem to be tracking your sleep data, specially your sleep stages, I'd like you to verify the following scenarios:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your tracker from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your tracker higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your tracker to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your tracker’s battery is critically low.

By the way, thanks for trying some steps to make it work.

There were a couple times during the two nights that didn’t sync sleep data where my heart rate didn’t record. Does that ruin the sleep tracking for the whole night? It looked like it was only an hour or so during the whole night.

None of the other scenarios apply to me.  I tightened the band one notch last night after restarting the Fitbit and it did fine. The tighter notch is fine at night but sometimes feels too tight during physical activity.

Thanks for your reply @Chelleomi! Heart rate data it's like the basic information that your Charge 2 needs to track your sleep stages. Let me explain to you that Fitbit estimates your sleep stages using a combination of your movement and heart-rate patterns. When you haven’t moved for about an hour, your tracker or watch assumes that you’re asleep. Additional data—such as the length of time your movements are indicative of sleep behavior (such as rolling over, etc.)—help confirm that you’re asleep. While you’re sleeping, your device tracks the beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate, known as heart rate variability (HRV), which fluctuate as you transition between light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep stages. When you sync your device in the morning, we use your movement and heart rate patterns to estimate your sleep cycles from the previous night. That is why, the way you wear your Charge 2 is very important, because it needs to accurately read your HRV.

For psychical activity, you don't need to wear it too tight, it should be loose enough to be able to read your heart rate and don't feel uncomfortable. Please take this into consideration, wear it at few nights more and let me know how it goes if still working fine. 😉

I think it was because I didn’t wear it tight enough, it’s hot and I was pushing it away from my wrist.  Thank you.  I have also found it syncs better in the morning, if I forget to do it and leave it until the evening it sometimes takes 2 or 3 syncs before it shows up.  Thanks for your help

It is syncing now but it didn't do the sleep cycles for the past three nights.

Hey @Jane.E, thanks for the update! As I have mentioned, since the heart rate is basic to detect your sleep stages, the way your wear your Charge 2 at night, is really important. It should be not too tight but not too loose. More than anything, it should be comfortable enough.

@Chelleomi, sounds great that is syncing now. In regards of the previous days data, I can't guarantee that it was properly recorded and therefore, that it will appear on your account.

Let me know if you have further questions guys!

My Charge 2 gathered heart rate information, but not sleep. I did not sleep fewer than 3 hours. I restarted the charge and my iPhone. Still won’t sync sleep from last night.

Hey @Tessieca, it is great to see new faces around! Thanks for restarting your Charge 2 and you iPhone to get sleep data. Besides that, please take a look at the following:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your tracker from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your tracker higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • You can also try to change your Charge 2 from one wrist to the other one, to get better results.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your tracker to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
