Hey @bowler58, it is great to see you around more often! I appreciate the time you have taken to get in touch with our Support team. On the other hand, let me explain to you that in order to receive your Sleep Stages on a consistent basis, there are certain requirements that must be met. Most importantly to have the tracker record Sleep Stages, it is to ensure you are getting enough heart rate variability.

There are many things that can affect your heart rate pattern on any given night. If the tracker couldn't gather enough heart rate variability data, you will most likely receive the classic sleep log. Also, when your tracker doesn't record Sleep Stages, the app will provide an in-app notification explaining why.

As you all may know,  there are a few scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

My best thought would be to continue with customer support, they have access to your account.

Now for things i can suggest.

First lets go to a sleep record, below the graph you might see a reason for no sleep stages .or the message we dtDknow why. What does yours say.

One of two steps have been found to help some.

Turn heart rate to on.

Set the sleep to sensitive .

That is about all i have.

Don't waste your time. There are many other threads where this problem is discussed ad nauseum!

Many people have the problem, have tried all the suggestions with no consistent  results.

Fitbit don't know how to fix the problem with either the software or the device sensor!

Since i don't seem to have consistent problems with sleep stages. and don't know anyone who does. I do know that the app generally gives me a reason when stages are not shown. Knowing the reason, usually hwlpshme figure out what went wrong.

I too have the same problem you report. Have had device 7 days and rcv’d 3 stage reports, rest are the old style. Old style reports offer no “error descriptions” in the morning.  My Dr recommended the product for this feature. After my experience she no longer recommends the Fitbit product.

Looking to to return the Charge 2 next week in favor of something that lives up to its claims. Highly disappointing!

I've had a charge 2 since 30 June 2018 and I have only ever received the simplified sleep patterns. I always get the message that my heart rate isn't properly detected. I get all the other heart rate info when I walk, resting heart rate etc. I seem to wear my fitbit correctly. Either my heart goes into hiding when I'm asleep or there is a problem that always gives me the simple sleep pattern. I still haven't got to the answer.

Should I do a factory reset on my Fitbit? It will not record stages of sleep. I have tried all of the solutions recommended.

My Fitbit used to record stages of sleep but stopped about 2 weeks ago. Nothing has changed with my sleep or heart rate

Sleep data is completely unreliable. For me, last night, much to my surprise, sleep data. Previous SEVEN nights, NO SLEEP DATA. No change is sleep conditions!

Product is totally useless for sleep monitoring purposes, and FITBIT seem to have no interest in or ability to fix the problem.

I will be looking for alternatives

I've just got myself a fitbit the other day, and it was my first night wearing it the other day and my sleep pattern was very basic. I'm hoping it's just because it's new but reading theses comments isn't making me feel good about it. I've set it to sensitive and gunna give it another go.
