Charge 2 problems with sleep recording

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Had the charge 2 since July and it has worked fine till the last few weeks. Suddenly it has stopped recording my sleep properly. It picks up my sleep but only from a few hours after I've gone to bed. For example last night it started recording sleep at 2am when I was in bed and asleep from around 1130pm. Last week it did this on 2 nights when it started recording my sleep from about midnight/1am when I had gone to bed at 10pm. I have restarted the device a number of times, changed the sleep settings, reconnected etc. But it is still happening. I am not sure why it has suddenly started doing this.

Hey @KateH123, it is great to see new members around! Smiley Happy I appreciate the time you have taken to make your Charge 2 track your sleep more accurately. Since your sleep is not being correctly tracked, I'd like you to take the following into consideration that might be affecting your sleep data:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your tracker from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your tracker higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your tracker to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your tracker’s battery is critically low.

Wear it for a few nights and let me know if that works!

Hi KateH123,

A few Charge 2 owners are experiencing similar sleep monitoring issues such as yours in the Fitbit Charge 2 tracking sleep like a flex thread.

Might want to check out the workarounds mentioned in the thread as well as what been mentioned by the moderator (HeydyFitbit).

This appears to be an issue with the latest firmware that's made the Charge 2 go wonky without much rhythm or reason. Until Fitbit fixes these bugs, we're all in the beta testers club for the time being.

Not sure why it is saying solved when it isn't. I tried to unclick the solved button and it automatically recorded it as solved! A bit naughty that it works that way. Thanks for the link to that thread Steve. At least I am not alone!

Thanks for getting back to ms Heydy. I have tried all those steps before. It is a sporadic thing and I am doing nothing different on the nights it works vs doesn't work but I will let you know if it fixes itself!

The correct message form @HeydyF would have been:

Hi @KateH123, we have noticed that more customers are experiencing this problem. Please have a look around for the other topics for some tips to overcome the issue. You could for example try to wear your Charge a bit higher on your arm or use the sleep now function in the app.

Meanwhile we are investigating what is causing these sudden issues. But that means that our developers should actually look at a finished product and I don't expect many results since most feature requests are open for 2 years+, when you will not be owning our product anymore anyway.

Hi LinkeLoutje,

Think we all know the frustration of working with buggy firmware. If no one has said so -

welcome to Fitbits' beta testers club! While being a beta tester, you get to discover all sorts of issues and problems associated with buggy firmware from Fitbit.

To join the beta tester club is quite easy - there's a cost, so best to be up front about it. Simply purchase a Fitbit device and install the latest firmware.

As you're discovering issues, you will go through many hair pulling moments and bouts of madness. When this happens, take a break with your favorite beverage and/or go outside for a breath of fresh air. Your Fitbit device will be okay as bugs will continue to be there - so don't worry. It'll be right where you previously left it and looks forward in going through another roller coaster ride with you - when in the mood.

There maybe an ahah moment! That's when you discover a workaround to the issue at hand. It will most probably be an unsatisfactory solution (i.e PITA), but Fitbit appreciates you posting results on the forum so others may try it and see if the workaround covers up the bug. Unfortunately you wont get paid for the time and effort of discovering the workaround. At best get a few +1 thumbs up from fellow community members.

Once again, thank you for being part of Fitbit's beta testers club! Hope you have a nice day.Cat LOL

Thanks very much @steveting99! Glad you took the liberty to welcome me to the club, since we all know that such a gesture and actually showing interest in a customer is not part of @HeydyF's script.

Hi all new to Fitbit and I must admit the sleep analysis is pretty poor. Says I’m I bed at 3am when in fact I’m in bed at 10:30pm. Brand new Fitbit Charge 2. I use the app to tell me when it’s time to sleep. Other apps appear to work fine.

I have exactly the same problems. I’ve done everything that Fitbit have told me to do and it’s done nothing at all. SO FRUSTRATING!!!
