Charge 3 Counting Floors On Treadmill

Hi there

I started the gym the other day and i am noticing some strange activities.

If i use the Cross trainer my fitbit acts as expected, monitors steps and heart rate

When i use the treadmill however.....

It detects steps heart beat and sends the floors climbed through the roof.

Now im not walking up and down stairs and the treadmill is level, however after 45 minutes on a treadmill i have apparently walked up 200 flights of stairs (clearley wrong)

How do i stop this, so my workouts are accurate and doesnt tell me i've burnt excess calories i may not have done.

Also as a secondary issue, using an exercise bike, the heart beat is rarely ever detected and also the auto detect workout never activates.

i've tried to adjust the position i wear it, wear it tighter or looser, but cant get the nack of it.

And finally, just out of curiousity, is there a cool down period for the auto detect activities, as i dont have a break between using various gym machines, so when the auto exercise is detected on the cross trainer and logs the exercise at the end when i switch to the treadmill, the cross trainer activity is longer than it should be and the treadmill is shorter by the same ammount (like there is a lag of it detecting the exercise type has changed?)

Any help is appreciated, Thanks

Phil.

@Phil_GT    By chance, is there a fan near the treadmill that isn't near the cross trainer?  The altimeter senses a change in barometric pressure and an oscillating fan or even a door opening and closing can "count" a floor.  Even if this isn't the case, don't worry about excess floors.  They don't factor into calorie burn.

Auto-detect doesn't have a cool down period, per se, but there is some lag time before it stops that recording -- to decide that you are done.  I think your best results will come from using the Exercise app for each of your workout types.  It has distinct start/stop times.  You need it for the exercise bike.  It isn't auto-recognized and you need to use the Spinning shortcut.

Fitbit recommends wearing your tracker farther away from your prominent wrist bone during workouts.  Have you tried that?  Also, try loosening your grip on the handles.  A very tight grip creates a type of "noise" interference.  It can keep you from getting a heart rate trace.

Hi there

Thanks for the reply.

Found the spinning shortcut so that sorted that one out.

I've done the fitbit exercises moving forward to rule out the cool down time, so thats good.

The treadmill has a little airvent on the top, which is about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

As you say the floors dont count for calories, i shall just ignore them.

Thanks for your help 🙂

Turns out a few days later that the fitbit had a meltdown and died

Left it on charge overnight, and in the morning, was dead and red hot.

Customer services were great and sent me a new one out so long as i send the faulty on in and this one is working great.

0 sets of stairs climbed whilst on a treadmill, so may just have been dying.
