8/14 Update: We are continuing to roll out the firmware update for Charge 3 and expect more users will see it as available. This is a progressive rollout, and all customers can expect to have it within a few weeks. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed. If you don't see the option to update, don't worry - you'll have it soon!

Please use this thread to share your experience updating the firmware once it's received. If you have a different inquiry, please post in a thread with a similar topic or create a new post.

7/23 Update: the firmware update has only rolled out to a small percentage of users, and will roll out further next week. It should be rolling out to everyone soon. Thanks for your patience and interest, we look forward to hearing your feedback on the new firmware.

We've begun releasing new firmware (1.88.11) for Charge 3 to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CHARGE 3 FIRMWARE UPDATE: ALARMS CLEARED

We moved where you set alarms from the Fitbit app to your wrist! After you update, any alarms set will be cleared and need to set up again on the device.

To make sure you don't miss an important alarm, open the Alarms app on Charge 3 and tap *+ Set up a new alarm*. Tap the checkmark to save and make sure it’s set.

This gets a bit messy - my small size wrist band broke - not sure now if before or after the update - so I went to the larger size and adjusted accordingly.

after I did the update on Friday 14th  to 1.88.11 the Charge 3 went ballistic as some described - vibrating on/off and screen flashing - this went on for several hours - finally settled. Note up to this point Sleep Tracking had been fine - that night it crashed out at 3.21am and only logged 2h52min sleep since then I have received no sleep scores as the device is having trouble detecting a reliable heart rate. The heart rate detector is not registering correctly at all - it is out by 20/30/40 beats per minute. It is erratic. My resting heart rate due to this has gone from 73 to 78. Note I check pulse by manual count and when doing Blood Pressure checks. I also not Calorie count at point of waking is already around 400 calories plus when waking in past at comparable times. Note also I no longer receive the “fireworks” when I achieve 10,000 steps. I have rebooted device several times. This unit was a Xmas gift and after eight months a problem. The fact that the wrist band separated - just fell apart is also a worry as I rarely removed the device. If I could reload the software would it help? How would I do this? Exasperated in Oz. Can anyone help - is Fitbit out there listening?

My charge 3 hasn't synced since Friday. I've tried lots of things to get it to connect, but no luck.

Battery stuck on 100% since update. Anyone else having this problem? Even with restart and trying to charge it still says 100% ALL THE TIME! Fix this please!

I did the update two days ago and my fitbit has gone crazy.  It vibrates all the time when I am walking and lost battery power by 60% in a day.

Just looked at the app.

Sleep info is no longer displayed, don't know how to get that back, or if it's even possible.

Battery showing 99%, pretty sure that's not accurate but we'll see if it stays there.

Yeah they even say only for Charge 4 on them, so they are identical even though they now work on the 3 as well.

Put it on the charger & the fitbit also says 99%. Before the update it would not have gone 18 hrs and only use 1%, so this looks to be an improvement.

I tried to update the firmware, it did not actually update - the app crashed. Now the app is telling me that there is an error and the firmware is updated.
The app shows my Charge 3 FW is 28.20001.63.5.  Which also shows on my charge 3 under settings/about

Downloaded the newest firmware yesterday.  Wish I had read this forum first.

My charge 3 was operating perfectly.   After a normal update procedure, it now tracks NOTHING .  I have tried hard and soft reboots, un-pairing and re-pairing and factory restore.

I wish there was an option to roll back the firmware to the prior version...   the one that didn't turn my fitbit into a wristwatch.

Hi, I’m having issues with the Fitbit inspire HD since the update. The heart rate reads much higher than it should do, the display keeps flickering and the calorie count is far too high based on the activity I have done. Can you please advise how to rectify this issue?

I am having a issues with the Alta HR (blank screen) almost every day. I was thinking of getting a Charge 3, but after reading all the issues that people are having I am ambivalent! Even the Inspire is having trouble with updates...yikes!

Is it just me that finds it very strange that the update is released, people carry out the update, the device no longer works properly, then a few days later Fitbit send out an email advertising the Charge 4 at a discounted price?! The exact same thing happened with the Charge 2 update last year. Or am I just being cynical? 🤔

Is that why my phone is seeing it before my Windows 10 PC? It's available for Android but not Windows, yet?

The story continues woke to this Premium notification the Monday figure is actually 8hr12 min the lowest was Friday 2hr 52min but only because the heart rate monitor gave up the ghost. I won’t be taken up the Premium

at the end of 3 month trial. I certainly did not achieve a 4859 calorie burn yesterday. At the heart of the matter is the HEART RATE SENSOR - and don’t tell me it is the WRIST BAND or a reboot or a factory reset or DELETE Charge 3 and add It back in. I figure it is a serious SOFTWARE ISSUE as I read this forum I have experienced ALL OF THE ABOVE. When will our FATBOTs be fixed??????????

I installed this update yesterday and now have a blank Charge 3 screen. It vibrates when I press the button but the screen doesn't switch on and the sensor lights on the back are intermittent. I've tried to hold the button down and do a restart whilst charging it but the screen is still blank.

I bought the tracker just over a year ago but this update has killed it. Is there anything I can do?

I can't help but feel that this is Fitbit's way of trying to make you buy a new tracker. If so I'll buy a more reliable one elsewhere, it was fine until I installed this update.

Have been trying to update mine. It takes several hours then just quits & a few days later asks me to update firmware again.
I let it go all night trying to update. App still showed updating Fitbit looked like it was done. Now tried to sync, and no data back to updating line. Come on Fitbit. Second go round with your update problems. Last one required a new Fitbit. Stop rolling out updates that don’t work & please give us a fix!

This timing is really suspicious, mine hasn't had any issues, then yesterday it starts during off, when I plug it in it says 1% battery, but then shows 100% charged after just minutes. If I reboot mine from settings, it'll show 1% battery again immediately after reboot, but 100% after a couple minutes of charging. Removing it from the charger, and unit will shut off within minutes, plugging back into charger starts the whole cycle over again.

Hi. I updated my Fitbit charge 3 yesterday with the new update. Since then it has stopped tracking everything and is not showing any tracking data on the Fitbit or on my phone. When I try to track an “exercise” on my Fitbit, the whole thing freezes on the play button and I have to hard reset my device.

Is there any way I can go back to the previous update.

Thanks!
