Charge 3 Heart Rate Variability

Is there a way to determine your heart rate variability (HRV) using the charge 3? Is there a separate app that can be used in conjunction with FitBit perhaps?

Welcome on board @fraymuskza, it's nice to see you around here! It's good to know that you're doing your research, this is the best place to ask that information. I'd like to clarify that our PurePulse heart rate tracking offers automatic, continuous wrist based tracking for all-day health insights and workout intensity. It is uniquely designed to measure heart rate all day, with always-on optical heart rate sensors that still maintain extended battery life.

It allows you to accurately track workout intensity and calorie burn with finely tuned algorithms that provide insight through interactive charts and graphs, since Fitbit tracker were designed to help you to get the next level of fitness based on the intensity of your workouts. But HRV information or specific stat in regards of beat-to-beat variability are not showed in the Dashboard.  The heart rate icon you see on the display tells you if you're in one of three heart rate zones: Peak, Cardio, Fat Burn Zone and as you can see in your Surge you get the Resting HR or if you're out of zone.

I found this suggestions in our Feature Suggestions board: Heart Rate Variability (HRV) measurement. Add your votes and comments here. Fitbit is always striving to improve!

Hope this helps! Woman Very Happy

The Feature request you referenced has been open since 2014. I don't think the software dev team takes these requests serious.

@MarreFitbit I just found it funny that you suggest adding a vote to the Feature Suggestion when that feature suggestion is already 5+ years old. It doesn't give much confidence that the feature suggestion system works and are actually looked at.

They don't care. Look at the driving mode request for example.

The Whoop has been doing this and I'm considering switching since they do a much better job tracking recovery and daily strain to figure out if you're over exerted: https://www.whoop.com/experience/#recovery

Agreed that voting up a feature opened since 2014 is ridiculous.

I have been using the Whoop for over a year and it does use HRV (which you can see) at your last deep sleep period which can vary night to night.  However, it does a pretty good job of showing your degree of recovery and readiness for the next day but one still needs to listen to their body.  The HRV and RHR that it provides definitely shows the impact of alcohol and poor sleep.  You may want to also consider the Oura ring which I have on order.  Oura does not track activities but I am finding that to be less important to me.  The strain on either one is still based upon your strain during the day whether you log anything or not.

I would buy a new Fitbit that had the ability to track HRV-the Whoop does it and I temporarily switched over for a while bc of it, but I love fitbit’s watches bc they provide real-time data and the straps don’t come off like whoop’s mediocre hardware.

To pull up the thread again, as it has been recently (6 days ago) been written about why HRV is not added:

You need an EKG to do it properly (apparently, paraphrasing. Haven't studied this yet). Might have to wait for Galaxy Watch 2, which has EKG. Unless you wanna wear a fitness strap around your chest at all times. I know I don't.

Yeah wish they could add HRV. But even w the promised SPO2 sensor sooooooo many eons ago ............. duh. Fitbit is amazing 😂

Whoop has a patent on HRV. So perhaps Fitbit can add it in about 2035.

No patents on HRV only possibly their approach which is not my preferred methodology. My Oura ring and even Apple Watch measure it. Also Withings, Garmin and Polar.
