Charge 3 does not detect swimming activity. I checked my settings to verify the lap length was specified. It either detects swimming as walking or elliptical.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @lintunen.

Thank you for checking your settings before contacting us.

To try to resolve the issue, please restart your Fitbit Charge 3 by following these instructions. Whether you continue experiencing difficulties to track your swim, you can perform a long restart:

  1. Connect the device to the charging cable.
  2. While the device is plugged into the charging cable, press and hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  3. The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration.
  4. The device turns off.
  5. The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur.
  6. Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  7. Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response, @lintunen.

Inconsistencies in your swim data may be caused by any of the following:

  • You completed only a few laps
  • You stopped to rest multiple times or in the middle of the pool
  • You stopped to rest for longer than 60 seconds after completing a pool length
  • You changed your stroke type midway through a length
  • You swam with a kickboard or without using your arms
  • You swam less than the minimum duration needed for your swim to be automatically recognized which by default is 15 minutes

Whether the information above doesn't suit your case, please provide us with the following information:

- Which stroke do you use to swim with your Charge 3?

- Have you tried to track your swimming activity manually from your Tracker?

If you have any question, please let us know.

I should be meeting the above mentioned criteria for the swim to be tracked. In answer to your additional questions:

  • Breast stroke.
  • No. I gave up manually adding swi data after accidentally modified the wrong event and found that the app had no way to undo this.
