My Charge 3 still has a black face after rebooting multiple times, changed the clock face (via phone) multiple times and when plugged in to the charger, no smiley face appears, however, it does still sync with phone.
I have had my Charge 3 less than 2 years and expected more. This has happened 3 times since I’ve had it and rebooting worked the previous times. I bought three daughters & husband the same Charge 3 but Mine is the only one with these problems.
I tried to contact Customer Service but only saw contact via twitter, which I don’t really use, and sent a message more than 12 hours ago, still waiting for a response. Could someone please email or call me.

I am in exactly the same situation and tried all the same fixes and still a blank screen. Disappointed for a Fitbit less than 12 months old
