Charge 3 high step count on the Fitbit App

I walk 5 to 6 miles a day.  In the last couple of days, the step counter on the phone app showed 58,000+ steps at the start of my walk. The watch face shows the correct amount.  After the walk, and when back home, the phone app resets to the number on the watch.  Any ideas?  I use the phone app to see the step count because the watch face is unreadable in bright sunshine.

Hello @MG0910. Welcome to the community forums.

I'm very sorry to hear about this experience and thank you for the detailed information. I suggest you to confirm that MobileTrack isn't enabled. MobileTrack is a feature that records basic stats such as steps using your phone's sensors if you don't have a Fitbit device available. But if there was a fan or anything buzzing nearby, or if your phone was vibrating during that time, that might have caused you to receive incorrect steps tracked.

If this is the case, I'd suggest you to remove this feature by following the steps described in this help article and monitor your tracker's behavior to see if this has any relationship.

Hope this helps.

One more thing I saw today.  Just before going for my walk, I checked the fitbit app on my phone.  It showed 300 steps.  I left the house to take my walk and I checked the app again and it said 78, 239 steps.  Twenty feet from my front door.????

For the last week I’ve had the same issue with my Charge 2. Device works fine, app is logging erroneous data. Seems there is a problem with the app.

@MG0910 @Suzanne192 I'd like to let you know that there is currently a new update for the Fitbit App but if you still don't see it available, I recommend waiting for it to appear and then perform the update. For more information, I recommend visiting the following link: What's changed in the latest release of the Fitbit app?
