Charge 3 not auto-recognizing biking

I just upgraded from a Charge 2. I'm pretty lukewarm about the Charge 3 so far. The biggest issue I'm having is that it is no longer auto-recognizing my daily bike commute correctly. The Charge 2 was very accurate in terms of time and getting the activity correct--my commute is anywhere from 14-20 min depending on traffic (I lowered the auto-recognize threshold for outdoor bike from 15 to 10 min to accommodate shorter days). However, the Charge 3 calls it "sport" and the length of activity is now anywhere from 20-30 min, even though I'm riding the same time/distance as before. Yes, I could track the activity manually--but I don't want/need GPS tracks for this. It is my daily commute--all I want is for the active minutes to be logged correctly. I don't want to have to do this manually every day. The larger issue is that something that was working perfectly fine for the Charge 2 doesn't work on the Charge 3. (P.S. Yes, I rebooted the device and no, it didn't help).

Hi Murray79, since my last posting the Charge3 has been behaving even more oddly.
I did a 16 mile bike ride trying all the approved settings and initiating and much to my surprise when sycn'd after the ride it showed the trip as a bike ride with a map and points on the route at 1 minute intervals for speed and allegedly heart rate but stated not enough data available to clarify those individual HR sectors.
Later I did another bike ride, on return post-sync it showed the ride as a walk, just like before, though I could go in after and classify it as a bike ride.
I don't know what sort of demented geek has programmed this device and it's iPhone associated software but it strikes me as just too difficult to be bothered with and I will pass it on to a friend who doesn't cycle but walks for exercise.
I'm now getting acquainted with a Garmin Vivosport which has it's own GPS and that is considerably easier to achieve the task of tracking and logging my bike route. My only quibble with it so far is that it showed a maximum HR achieved if 178 versus the chest-mounted monitor which logged a max off 155 on the same ride.
Hope this helps and jogs the good folk at FitBit to sort out the software issues.
Regards, Fitwrinkly>

My fitbit charge 2 always auto recognised bike rides. I have had the charge 3 for a year and as far as I recall it has tracked 21 miles of a 25 mile bike ride once and minimal amount of one other. In the last 4 months  I have done 700 miles, always have gps on, walks track fine, just bike rides. I have been trying to update firmware all week but cant do that either!!

Thanks for taking the time to explain so well Janae. Exactly the issue I'm having and the problem I suspect is just as you describe. I just went on a ride with someone who also has a charge 3 and has not done the update, he logged 108 minutes, mine however only logged 28 minutes. We were on the exact same ride, neck and neck the entire time. So frustrating. Also having issue with my phone sporadically saying it's connected with GPS running to track my distance at odd times without connecting it manually, it's even had that message when I wake in the morning, it just begin recording a fictional workout while I'm sleeping, all also since the update. (I do not take my phone with me when I bike, so it should not be any kind of GPS interference, there is no reason why it should not be auto tracking my rides, just an additional issue since update)
