I am up and down my internal and external stairs constantly each day and night. The internal stairs are 18 treads with a larger number of treads for my two external stairs. Yet I'm lucky to get two registers a day for climbing up the stairs.
The Fitbit is brand new, just a few days old, having been forced to buy another while waiting for a replacement for the Charge 3 that died after just 9 months. Is there an software update to fix this problem?

It's great to see you around, @Deborah007.
Your device uses both an accelerometer and altimeter to track floors, and registers a floor when detecting continuous motion combined with an elevation gain of about 10 feet. Because the device looks for continuous motion, pausing when you go up a flight of stairs can cause the device to not count the floor.
Your device may count less floors than you think it should for a variety of reasons. Not all flights are the same height or distance, so if the flight you climbed is less than 10 feet you may find that the device's floor count doesn't exactly match how many floors you climbed. Exposure to excess moisture can also cause result in fewer floors.
Let me know if you need anything else. 🙂

Thank you Alejandra for your thoughts. My staircases are all well and truly over 10 feet high, as my home is well over 100 years old with very high ceilings on each floor with continuous treads such that my motion going up is constant. Also I live in a dry hot country where there is little if any moisture, so that is unlikely to be a contributing factor to why my Charge 3 is not recording each time I walk up stairs.
UPDATE: 29 JAN 2020
My Charge 3 now APPEARS to be correctly counting my stair ascents. Same stairs. No change in temperature, same number of treads. Fingers crossed this continues. Good luck to anyone else with the same concern. 🙂

I have the same issue. My Charge 3 just isn't detecting anywhere near as many flights of stairs that my old HR did just fine for several years that seemed correct. The same stairs too.
Is the pressure /altimeter not working because it's waterproof?

Had the same experience with my old Fitbit Charge 3 before it died, it was counting the same stairs, but the replacement Charger 3 doesn't. Sounds like Fitbit need to push out a software update to fix this issue.
