Charge 3 problems after app changes

What has happened? Why has FitBit made my Charge 3 useless now? The recent app update makes it so the FitBit goes black when it can’t seem to connect to Bluetooth. It also does not appear to track steps while black. When it’s out of range of my phone or I’m using another Bluetooth connection. I’ve restarted the fitbit. Hard reset the Fitbit. Rebooted the phone. Forgot and reestablished pairing. Removed and Reinstalled the app, went to factory settings on the FitBit, changed clock faces... none of it works. Only making sure the phone and FitBit are close to each other AND the phone is only Bluetooth connected to FitBit. I didn’t want a watch but if my Charge 3 is useless then I won’t buy another FitBit. I’ve only had this 5 months.
