I have a Charge 3 and use the IOS Fitbit app. I do not leave the app running at all times as it is a drain on the battery. I often see steps erased and hours with 250+ steps removed. I have been the most successful if I wait 20 or 30 seconds after the last activity on the Charge 3 and then open the app and just wait for it to sync.
Today after 10 a.m., I saw that I had 9,219 steps and 3 of 14 hours with 250+ steps. I have a screenshot of this.
Shortly after 11 a.m., I saw another sync because I had not yet force quit the app. The hours with 250+ changed to 4.
I don't recall the next time, but it was before noon. When I next synced, the hours with 250+ decreased to 3 and the steps increased to over 10,000.
I have another screenshot after 6 p.m. that shows still only 3 hours with 250+ steps and a total of 14,096 steps.
14,096 - 9,219 = 4,877. Dividing 4,877 by the 9 hours = 541.88 steps. It is not possible that 9 hours passed with that many steps and not a single hour with 250+ steps.
I do not manually log steps or activities.
Fitbit Charge 3: Version 20001.88.11
IOS app version: 3.34
I have another screenshot of the activities page. It shows only those steps in the morning on the graph, and nothing since 9:50 a.m.
I'll attach all screenshots.
