Charge 3 won't charge

Hi, my Charge 3 will not charge up. When i place it in the charging cradle and hold the button for 8 seconds one of two things happens. I either get the smiley face for a moment, and then it disappears, alternatively i get a white progress bar that that moves across the screen left to right, and when it gets to the right hand side of the screen it just stops. when i take it out of the charging cradle, it goes back to having a blank screen. 

it feels as though it tried to do some update and failed. anyone else experienced this and do you have any suggestions please? thanks

Thanks for troubleshooting this battery issue. If your Charge 3 isn't charging, I recommend taking a look at the help article: Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging? and follow the instructions provided there.

Now if the issue is with the tracker not turning on, I recommend following the steps in this post.
