Charge 4 button won't respond unless plugged in?

My Charge 4 is 2.5 years old and suddenly the side button will not respond to anything.  If I plug the charge 4 in then the side button will respond and I can access menus but shortly after unplugging the screen goes blank and the charge 4 no longer responds.  I have done reboot and hard reset.  The problem remains.  No idea why this would suddenly happen.  I really miss my tracker but a new one is not in my budget right now.  Has anyone had this issue and solved it?

So disappointing.  I am told by Fitbit Support that my Charge 4 is out of warranty.  I knew this but I am surprised that the technology fails completely after just 2.5 years.  They offered me a 35% discount off full price for a new one but all models are already on sale so my discount is worth $20.  They have now stopped responding to me.  Why on earth would I buy another one? The technology does not last and the customer service is sub-par.  Cannot recommend Fitbit to anyone.
