Charge 4 keeps tracking too many steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

When I wake up in the morning my fitbit seems to add 30,000 - 50000 steps. This has happened loads of times - like easily 3/4 times a week. I keep on adding driving to stop this - but ti's really annoying (messes up the sync to my fitness pal) I've tried resetting the device and rebooting it multiple times - is there a chance that its malfunctioning or is it something else?

Hi @Phini. Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the details provided, and the steps tried on your own. I'm sorry you're having this experience and to work on this together, may I know if you have MobileTrack set up in the Fitbit app? Let me share that this feature allows you to record basic stats such as steps using your phone's sensors. However, if there was anything buzzing nearby, that might have caused your phone to record incorrect steps.

Assuming this is correct, please follow these steps to remove that feature:

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap MobileTrack:
For iOS devices, scroll down and tap the option to remove the device.
    For Android devices,
tap the trash icon at the upper right corner.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove it from your account.
  4. Continue using your Charge 4 and monitor its behavior.

About the incorrect steps synced, you can log a non-step-based activity such as driving to override those steps.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lizzy,

I do have this on - I'll turn it off and I'll report back in a few days to see if it fixes the issue!

Thank you for this.

@Phini It's good to see you here again.

You're welcome, thanks to you for taking the suggestions shared above into consideration. Your Charge 4 should start tracking your steps correctly after removing that feature; however, don't hesitate to let me know if the issue persists so I can help you with that.

Have a good one.
