Charge 4 music control while running

Hiya,

Just went on a run and began logging it as usual. However, there doesn't seem to be a way to then access Spotify controls if the Charge 4 is already logging a run. You can't do both simultaneously as the only way to access back to the main menu is to finish logging your exercise.

Surely this defeats the purpose of having Spotify on the device?

I suggest everyone add their vote to this Feature Suggestion to control music on the C4 while exercising.  There should be music control on the Charge 4 like there are on the Versa.

I think this is a usability issue - maybe the designers didn’t consider that we would want to use the controls on the go. Or maybe it is a delayed feature, coming in a future firmware release.

Spotify is set up as a regular app. On the Versa you can get control of the music with a swipe down from any screen.

Something like this would be needed for the requested feature.

The other possibility would be to have the ability to move the tracking app to the background the way the timer can.

I know I can control Spotify by opening the app from the Fitbit charge 4 but I would like to know if this feature is also available when I start an activity (like running).

Best Answer

No. Makes it a redundant feature tbh

Best Answer

Yeah it's pretty useless... I need to change the music while I'm doing an activity and not when I have easy access to the phone..

Thanks for the clarification. My main gripe was that in their advertising it makes it seem as though you can do both at the same time on the Charge. As it's a fitness tracker most people would want to be able to control their music whilst logging an exercise. I would have got the Versa if the difference was made clearer as this was my main reason for getting a Fitbit.

Hopefully it'll get sorted in an update. There's been a feature request logged for it too.

I can't change songs on Spotify while exercising.

Anyone know how to do this?

Can't change the volume also.

HELP PLEASE!!!

Is it possible to switch music tracks when in exercise mode?  If not, is it being considered for a future update?

So clearly a feature that enticed me to the Charge 4, was being able to control Spotify from my wristband. Went out for a run today and realised that I can’t start my run on the watch and then switch the screen to Spotify to change my music without stopping my run. How is this appealing? Why can’t I still have my run being logged whilst controlling my music. Surely this is an obvious requirement for the function??

Best Answer

Same thing! If this is the case then it's a useless feature because I wont be stopping my workout to take my phone out to change a song.

Unless there is a workaround / fix for it - I'll be returning my fitbit. I can track my runs on any other basic device. Spotify was a main reason why i spend extra money on Charge 4.

Right now the best we can do is to add our votes to the suggestion.

Personally I wonder who designed the interface, not realizing that this is a must.

Hello all, I hope you are doing fine.

I am sorry for the delay in response and appreciate all the feedback provided about music control. As recommended, take a look at the Make Spotify accessible during a trackable workout request, vote for it and leave your comment.

Let me know if you need anything else. 🙂

I came here looking for a solution and instead I found another link to upvote a feature that should already be in place. That seems to be the result of every thread.

Can we as users get an update from Fitibit on when this feature will become available?

Having spotify on a fitness tracker but not being able to use it concurrently with the exercising apps is totally not acceptable.

@yokohiro

Agreed, the current implementation is just so flawed.

Hey Guys,

Had same question around the Spotify functionality.

So easiest way to get this is to start the activity via your Fitbit Phone App and then adjust songs via Spotify on your FitBit.

All my numbers sync over from the phone to the Fitbit and seems to be the good workaround, I'm not sure if it is missing pieces of data but should be suiting for those looking for that flexibility while mid activity.

Hope this helps!
