Charge 4 records steps on app & device continously

I just paired a new to me Charge 4 with my Android phone.  It has counted over 112,000 steps today.  I can see the steps quickly adding up in real time even on the app.  I do not have Move Track and I have tried rebooting, uninstalling, etc.  When the device is connected to the charger, step accumulation stops but start
