Charge 4 won't record sleep stages or scores

I had high hopes that my replacement Charge 4 would work.  First night, counted correct sleep, and delivered a sleep score, second night counted correct sleep, failed to generate sleep stages (seen this before), third night, failed to count, over 2 hours of sleep (seen this before) and failed to generate sleep stages.

Looks like the same problems that caused me to get a replacement in the first place.  Looks like I will be calling support on Monday, after I try the reset (didn't work on my last Charge 4).

I got used to have sleep counted correctly and getting a sleep score every night, while I was wearing my Charge 3, during the time I was waiting for my replacement Charge 4.

Does sleep tracking work for anyone, or is the Charge 4 just plain broken for for sleep tracking?

Hi @SunsetRunner. It's good to see you here in the forums.

Thanks for sharing detailed information about your Charge 4 replacement. I understand where you're coming from about not getting sleep details correctly and appreciate your efforts while working on this situation. To further investigate, may I know if the heart rate is working correctly? Did you sleep in a position that prevented your tracker from getting a consistent heart-rate reading?

While you might have tried troubleshooting your tracker, please give one last try to the following steps:

  1. Turn off the heart rate function within your tracker's settings.
  2. Restart your Charge 4 with the button as described here.
  3. Turn back on the heart rate function.
  4. Put your Charge 4 on your other wrist.
  5. Try wearing it higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone) and test it in the next days.

Yes, I have done that, I had to do that before I got a replacement.  Yes I have a constant heart rate, or at least that's what the graph looks like.  On the third night I got a 'couldn't get a consistent heart rate', yet the graph shows no issues.

I'm beginning to feel that the Charge 4 just can't do sleep tracking, like prior Fitbit devices.

I will be calling support tomorrow, about the faulty replacement.

@SunsetRunner I can't see how to help you fixing your issue but since you're asking I don't have any problem for sleep detection with my C4.

What I don't have is the visualization on the C4 itself of sleep data and sleep score but this is a different issue.

Contacted support, after only one day of sleep scores, and 6 without.  They had me delete the app and reinstall, blaming Apple for not having the most recent one available automatically.  Now it's off to another 3 or 4 days of testing it.  I'm beginning to think it is just to have time drag on, until they will say, oops it's been too long so sorry.

It seems as if product and support has gone downhill after the Google purchase.

This is EXACTLY the problem I am having. I've had the Charge 4 for a week & haven't had a sleep score since getting it. I am so frustrated! I have rebooted, moved it on my wrist... nothing. My heartrate is consistently recorded all day - I have to think it is a problem with the software.

Was thinking to try to replace it, but if the product is faulty, a new one won't matter. I was so pleased with my Charge 3, this is a huge disappointment.

I am having the same problem with my new charge 4, have only had it a week, ready to send it back....very aggravating, It recorded the first tonight and the third and fourth night nothing, saying that it lost the Bluetooth connection but I haven’t changed anything

I have reached the breaking point.  After Fitbit having the hardware available for over a year, and finally getting it working, to only show fluctuations.  Apple nailed it on the first attempt.  The new watch outperforms any of the fitbit devices for SPO2 checking.

I have pretty much just given up on Fitbit now.

Totally agree. Same problem.

Same problem here too. My inspire 2 tracked sleep better than my charge 4. I'm extremely disappointed.

This has been very disappointing. I upgraded from an inspire hr, which stopped recording my sleep. I figured that device was broken. So, I ordered a charge 4, which is no better. I’m on the verge of sending it back.

Currently having the same issues after having a charge 3 work perfectly.

Tried everything apart from turning the hr detecting off and restarting

Never ever had to force the charge 4 to sleep. It even recorded nano naps and I purchased the charge 3 to record my sleep as I have a sleep disorder and needed to show my Dr.

Unfortunately my charge 3 screen broke after 13ms fitbit replaced it and then the new one screen failed around 12/13 months later. Warrantee had expired and they offered me a discount Voucher towards a new device so I got the charge 4...

All seemed fine with everything else. I have 3ms free of premium too so should definitely have way more features available to detect my sleep.
