Charge 4 won't show up for iPhone, only Android

I have just bought a Charge4 second hand, it worked for the previous owner just fine, they wiped their data and charged it fully.
The thing will NOT show up for an iPhone, either in Settings-Bluetooth, or in the Fitbit app; and yet it shows up for an Android device just fine.
BEFORE people suggest the same thing I have found literally everywhere, I have already:
-plugged the Fitbit into it's charger
-turned Bluetooth off and on again
-force quit and restarted the Fitbit app
-turned Bluetooth off and on again while the Fitbit app was quit
-ensured the Fitbit app has the most recent update
-deleted and reinstalled the Fitbit app
-power cycled the iPhone
-ensured the iPhone has the most recent software update
-removed any case on the iPhone

We DID successfully connect it to an Android work phone, after which it showed up in my Fitbit app but then could not 'see' the device itself. (Being a work phone it is unable to remain connected there.)

It sounds like it could be possible there is a firmware update for the Fitbit itself, I have tried plugging it into the laptop computer but it also seems like Google isn't playing nice with Microsoft so there is no app to try to update the firmware from. Nor does there appear to be somewhere from within the Fitbit site here to do it while connected to the laptop.
