I charged my Charge HR 2 and used it. It was counting steps and stairs just fine. I decided to download the app to my phone, and when I did I was advised of an update which I installed. Now my Fitbit doesn't count stairs.
This is a complete change in technical performance that commenced immediately after I installed the update.
Based on the number of messages about this issue, this is clearly not an end-user problem. Please advise on how to return my device to the level of performance that existed upon purchase. Thank you.

If it is a software glitch caused by the update then a restart might fix it:
Help article: How do I restart my tracker?
This is safe to do and can sort out all sorts of issues.
On the other hand, if the update was just a coincidence then it may be a blockage. Your fitbit tracks floors by measuring changes in air pressure through a small hole in the back of the fitbit. If this hole becomes blocked then it can cause this problem.
Try cleaning it with, for example, an old toothbrush or a can of compressed air. Don't poke anything into the hole though as this can cause more problems.
