After my FitBit failed to wake me up this morning with the vibrating alarm, I spent the day researching what was wrong; bad charge, bad firmware, bad whatever?
Looking closely at the FitBit, I noticed that the rubber that covers the electronics had a small tear at the seam and this enabled me to peel it back, exposing a crack in the case (not the screen). When I made the crack worse, the FitBit was dead; when I forced the crack closed, the FitBit worked perfectly.
Unfortunately, FitBit customer service does not consider this a manufacturer's defect if out of warranty, so I will try my own repair with glue to the plastic case, then glue the rubber back in place.
