Daily calories burned appear incorrect

Hi, I am wondering if there’s something wrong with my Charge 2. I recently returned from an oversees trip and since then my daily calories burned just don’t look right. I came back on Friday and synced my Fitbit to update the time (6 hours time difference). I expected Friday to be off due to the additional 6 hours but expected everything to be normal by Saturday.

Saturday my burn was around 1500 cal at 8:00 PM when I went to bed (jet lagged and all). The next morning it showed over 2,100 cal for the day. How did I burn 600 calories in 4 hours sleeping? My usual burn at rest is 44 cal / hour, so it should have been less than 200. Then the last three days it reported the exact same burn (2026 cal). Not once since getting my Charge 2 in November 2017 have I seen the same burn twice in a row, and now three times? I have the latest Firmware (updated yesterday) and I restarted my tracker also. What is going on? Looking at the dashboard data my burns don't look that high and totally different from day to day. Is there a way to export this as an Excel file so I can add it up myself?

Hi @MsFraggleRed it's nice to see you again participating here in the Community Forums.

I appreciate all the information and details that were shared in your post, also, thanks for your effort and patience troubleshooting this situation prior to posting. Let me share with you that your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the rate at which you burn calories at rest just to maintain vital body functions like breathing, heartbeat, and brain activity. Your BMR usually accounts for at least half of the calories you burn in a day and is estimated based on the physical data you entered when you set up your account: sex, age, height, and weight.

The calorie burn estimate that Fitbit provides takes into account your BMR, the activity recorded by your tracker, and any activities you log manually. Also, please note that your tracker's calorie count will reset each night at midnight and begin counting immediately thereafter. BMR is the reason your tracker starts the day with calories already burned because you've still burned calories even if you haven't gotten out of bed yet.

My best advise after taking in consideration the above explained will be to keep your Charge 2 firmware version, Fitbit app and mobile device up to date. You can export Fitbit data following the steps that are specified on: How do I export my Fitbit account data?

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Ricardo, thanks for your response. I know about BMR. I know that I would burn calories throughout the day even if I didn't get out of bed... My point was that on Saturday apparently I burned over 600 calories in 4 hours while I was asleep, but I know I burn about 44 cal per hour doing nothing or sleeping and for the next three days my all day burn (BMR + activity) was exactly the same, even though my activity on each day was different.

I have had a Fitbit since 2014, my Charge 2 since 2017, and have never seen the exact same burn two days in a row, let alone three days in a row. So I thought something must be wrong with it. It seems to have sorted it out by now. Looks like my Fitbit was also suffering a bit from jet-lag, just like me. 😉
