Display on Charge 2 not working, green lights still flashing, won't connect to app.

I went away on vacation and left my Fit bit Charge 2 at home so that it wouldn't get lost or stolen. I came back and charged it and it connected initially but after wearing it for about 45 minutes, the display wont turn on and the green lights keep flashing nonestop. I have tried also connecting it to the app via bluetooth so that I can maybe look into it a bit more and it won't connect. I have only had it for about 4 months now and I clean it as per the instructions.

Hi, @Jojomeow, as a first step I would try a restart.

I am unable to restart it. It appears to be completely dead because the display won't show a single thing but the green lights are flashing so I know it isn't dead.

Hi, @Jojomeow, when you plug it in to charge as normal, do you feel any vibration as it is plugged in?

If so, go ahead and press the button for the restart.  It is really quite tricky to restart the Charge 2 because you need to press the button while it is in the charger.  I try to do this with my thumbnail.  Also you may need to hold the button in for MUCH longer than the advertised 4 seconds.  The main thing is to make sure it is charging (if it isn't it won't restart) so make sure everything is properly lined up and try to feel the vibration for charging, even if the display doesn't show.

Even if you don't feel the vibration, if you are sure everything is properly lined up in the charger try it anyway.

If the lights are showing, the Fitbit isn't dead!  So hopefully you can get it back going!

Hi @Julia_G,

I have made sure that the charger is properly lined up but there is no vibration when it is plugged in to the charger. Nothing comes up on the display either, the display is just blank. I tried holding the button down for longer like you suggested but nothing still happens. I have also tried connecting it to a wall charger as well as the USB port in my computer and nothing is making a difference. The only thing that "works" on it is still just the green flashing lights which shows that it is still charging even though there is no vibration or display. Should I just let it completely die so there are no green lights and then try again?

@Jojomeow, I feel like it ought to be able to be brought to life as it has the green lights!  I would definitely use a wall charger and not your computer.  I would say plug it in to the wall charger and try the restart a few more times -- restart is usually the best cure.

If that gets you nowhere you could, as you say, let it die completely, but I am not sure that will help...

If nothing works, the next step is to get in touch with Fitbit Customer Support on contact.fitbit.com.  Be sure to tell them the troubleshooting steps you have already tried.

Hi @Julia_G,

So pretty much 2 minutes after my post, the green lights stopped flashing so I think it completely died. I guess it was just holding on to that last bit of charge. Plugging it in still seems to do nothing though. I will contact support like you recommended.

Thank you for all your help! Smiley Very Happy

I'm so sorry, I know this is super old, but did you figure out how to fix the problem? I'm having the SAME exact problem. Didn't use it for a while, it went completely dead and now the green lights are just blinking! It's so frustrating.

Never got the problem fixed. My Fitbit was still under warranty so Fitbit sent me a brand new one. They were really good about the whole experience and dealt with it quickly. If you have exhausted all your options I recommend requesting a replacement Fitbit.

Mine’s doing exactly the same. I’ve tried resetting and hard reset but it won’t do anything.

I did a sync this morning when I woke up as usual and then took it off to shower, when I put it back on it had stopped working. I’m also out of warranty!! Help please anybody.

I got the same issue. I took out my fitbit after some months, kept in charge. It worked for few minutes and then stopped working. Now just green light is flashing. No screen, tried pressing the button several times. My product is not under warranty. Any idea how to fix this? My mom's fitbit also stopped working like this last month 😞

@Abhishekkataria , simply pressing the button a few times will not fix anything, but a proper restart might.  Here are the instructions:

  1. Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
  2. Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port.
  3. Make sure the button on your tracker is aligned with the button opening on the charging cable. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on your tracker’s display.
  4. Press and hold the button to restart your tracker:
    • Charge 2—press and hold the button on your tracker for 4 seconds. When you see the Fitbit logo and the tracker vibrates, the tracker restarted.
    • Charge 3 & Charge 4—press and hold the button on your tracker for 8 seconds. Release the button. When you see a smile icon and the tracker vibrates, the tracker restarted.
  5. Disconnect your tracker from the charging cable

You might sometimes need to hold the button for significantly longer than the times mentioned, and also sometimes you need to repeat the restart procedure several times.

Hi Julia, thank you for the detailed message.
I tried the steps you mentioned. But on step 3. The tracker do not vibrate when the charger is intact and neither I see the battery logo. I have tried this several times and also with a different charger also.

Thanks for the information Julia. Mines is now working. I held the button until I saw something on the display and that was about 30 seconds. :). Let's hope it continues working now.

Hi, @TonyaMelissa , I am glad that worked for you!  Many people do not understand that a LONG button push will often fix this issue if the Fitbit has become unresponsive.  this is not uncommon, especially when the battery has been allowed to die completely,  Then they give up after the recommended 5-8 seconds, when a longer hold might very well solve it.

i would recommend avoiding allowing your Fitbit battery to die completely.  Charging little and often is best practice and your Fitbit’s battery will deteriorate. U h more slowly that way and should keep going for much longer than the warranty period.

I have this exact problem. I’ve had my Charge 2 for 3 years and used it everyday. Today without any warning this happens. It won’t detect it on the app, it won’t buzz when plugged into charger. Completely black screen and only green light flashing. I’ve tried the resetting method and nothing comes up no matter how long I hold the button for. Please tell me someone got this problem sorted without being in warranty or having to buy a new watch.

I have the same problem with my charge 2. I have tried the restart many times (for up to 60. Seconds) without success. I still have the green lights flashing ok but no screen activity at all. Does anyone know of anyone in Australia who services. Fitbits?
