Hi,
My parents are thinking of getting me a Charge 3 or Versa for my birthday. I mainly swim for a mile and was wondering if you can see the lap counter on the watch or if it is just by time. Can't seem to find any good YouTube videos that demonstrate this. I currently use a Fitbit Blaze for other activities and a Garmin swim for my swims and would like the ability to have it all in one place. Thank you!

The charge 3 has a lap count. You have to set the length of the pool and then it somehow works out.
If you set the wrong length of the pool it won't work though, so make sure that is accurate.

I dont have a Charge 3 (yet) so am not sure about the lap count on that, but you can definitely see it on the Versa. I really like that feature, so I hope the Charge 3 does too (mine is on its way!)

Thanks! The Versa was the other option, just not sure how much they are willing to pay, so assuming it's going to be the Charge 3. Love to swim though, so hoping that I can see the lap counter.

A warm welcome to the Forums @Onyx1303. @NellyG and @B3RRRT thanks for the input.
Definitely, you can swim with both devices. Now about the stats, I recommend taking a look at the help article How do I track swims with my Fitbit device? for more information.
Let me know if you need anything else.

DON'T get a Charge 3! At least not yet. Check out the threads under the Charge 3 about swimming. The software is not working correctly and many of us who purchased the Charge 3 specifically for swimming are disappointed.
It is a shame because I like the rest of the features.

You cannot see the lap counter on the Charge 3 until you get to your phone or other blue tooth enabled device. The laps do not show up on the Charge 3 itself.

Well if you want to use it as a lap counter, charge 3 isn't your device. It does not display during excersize lap count. I was excited about the charge 3 and the capabilities that it finally has swim tracking, but for my taste it does a pretty bad job at it. The stats you get at the end is exactly 3 things: time it took, number of laps, estimated calories burnt.
I was expecting at least something like per lap times, heart rate (ok, this apparently is a big ask due to water and the optical heartrate monitor). Also when I enter the swim manually the calories burnt way higher like order of magnitude higher. I would discourage anyone to buy charge 3 for swimming tracking.

I have both the Versa and Charge 3. Both those devices, along with the Ionic and Flex 2 will count swim as an exercise, and from my understanding, will count laps as a result.

does it have per lap time results? Seems like such an easy feature to add as it has all the data.

I too was expecting to be able to see a breakdown of each lap's time and stroke count. I am disappointed that the app will not show that.

how do you have a heartrate number? I have nothing on my app, also my calory burns are way off 😞

Thanks for this straight answer. The support replies are really misleading. So much so it's almost false information/advertising.
Does the charge 3 show laps/lengths in real time on my wrist?

No, it does not. It doesn't even record per lap time, just an overall summary of laps and total time. It is as close to no tracking as you possible can go.

@Onyx1303 Yes, it has a lap counter but please be aware that in my tests it is between 30% and 7o% inaccurate. I’ve loaded a Support call and received a response from Fitbit support stating they know they have a bug but have no plans to fix it. As a footnote, the auto-swim tracking feature also does not work properly and Fitbit knows that too and at the moment have no plans to fix that either. So if you want to use the Charge 3 for swimming my advice is look elsewhere.

If it's counting laps how hard could it be to DISPLAY the **ahem** lap count. I need to know how many laps I've done. I'll be using my Charge 3 as a back up only when I can't use my Garmin for some reason.
