Exercise Vs Active minutes

Hi, so my question is - why does my Fitbit sometimes recognise a long walk as exercise and sometimes just as active minutes? A specific example is that today I did 2x 30min walks that were intensive enough to register 56 active minutes, however it did not log as a period of exercise and therefore count towards my weekly exercise goal. My Fitbit does auto log walks as exercise sometimes but it seems a bit random that it doesn't always. Is it that it has a different heart rate threshold for exercise? Thanks

To be counted as an exercise session, heart rate is not a factor.  If relying on auto-recognition, it just has to recognize the motion and be continuous for as least the minimum time, 15 minutes as default but can be changed.

If you would use the Exercise App, you could be sure every exercise session would be counted.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
