Exercise not tracked

Am I using the track exercise feature wrong? I start my Fitbit for my walk but it pauses when I stop walking, at a stop light or to have a drink or to check on the baby, and because I can't see the display when outside I can't restart it. It also pauses when I get a text or phone call. I know I'm getting the exercise but seeing all the info would help with my motivation.

Are you starting walk from tracker itself rather than from phone app?

Are you sure you are tracking it as ''Walk'.? 'Run' has an auto-pause feature you can turn on or of but I didn't think Walk would do that.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

I'm starting it from the tracker itself. It's tracking part of the walk because it shows when I sync afterwards.
