So when I connected my Charge 2 to my Pixel 8a, everything worked beautifully. That is, when I started a run via the Charge 2, it would record the exercise with GPS.
Then to solve a problem with another app, I reset all app permissions on my Pixel. Since then the only way I can get an exercise to record is to start and end it on my phone, making the Charge 2 useless. I have given the Fitbit app every possible permission. After that the phone did start showing it was teaching GPS when I started an exercise, but when I complete it, it never shows in the app or shows without GPS.
I completely wiped my phone to reinstall thinking it would re-ask for permissions but when I restored my apps, it also restored the full permissions I gave it earlier.
Is there some permission deep down I'm missing?

It's not you or your phone. Since about 2 weeks ago, Fitbit and various Charge devices have stopped working as expected. Unfortunately it's just really bugs for the older devices and Google/Fitbit doesn't care enough to fix it (quickly).
Prior to last week, I could start runs on my Charge 2 and use phone GPS and it'd be perfect. Fitbit would merge heartrate from Charge and GPS data from phone to give me accurate run details. Worked great.
Last week, my Fitbit would no longer merge the phone GPS to my runs. So it just save my time and heart rate as part of my run. No GPS route shown in the saved activity, though before ending my run the watch did have accurate distance.
As of this week, Fitbit will not save my runs triggered from my Charge 2. I've been testing to see if they fixed it, but it just got worse. I try for a short few minutes run and it doesn't get saved to the Fitbit app anymore.
