Firmware update for Charge 3

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

If I log exercise via the iOS app (with a Charge 3 device) and leave the Fitbit app it stops recording. It was working fine until a few days ago, and I’m doing everything the same as I was. I think its probably the most recent app update but I’m not seeing anything on the threads in the iOS app community that anyone else is getting this. The app also keeps freezing - clicking on any of the tiles on the Today screen no longer takes me to the detail sit did a few days ago. I’ve had to delete the app, reinstall and login again every day for the last three days.

I’m trying to work my way through and check the basics to see if its something simple and have found that the firmware on the device is not the latest version. I have previously updated through the iOS app but now realise the prompt / button hasn’t come up. I’ve checked the help article https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1871.htm and checked my phone settings and the Fitbit app is set to run in the background. The only other way to update is via Fitbit Connect but I have a Mac running Catalina and this doesn’t seem to be supported so I’m at a loss.

Anyone got any ideas?

Sorry but you lost me in 2 ways on the first sentence.  I don't know of any way of logging exercise on Fitbit without being in the Fitbit app, so I don't understand how or why you are leaving the Fitbit app.

And "it stops recording".  What stops recording?  Are you saying the Charge 3 stops recording steps based on what you are doing with your phone?  If you are saying the Fitbit keeps recording but not the phone, data goes from the tracker to your phone when it syncs.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

start to log as I leave the house. Along the way I stop to do some shopping and need to use another app. I could do that and the Fitbit exercise recording could be paused and then restarted when I finished shopping. So I’m leaving the Fitbit app as I’m not just out for exercise.

The steps are tracked but to track the GPS the exercise needs to be recorded in the app as the Charge 3 doesn’t track GPS.

So the top and bottom exercise sessions were logged in the app and exercise only sessions when I didn’t leave the app. The middle one I had to leave the app and the steps / time were logged but not the GPS so no map.
