The Fitbit has not been used for over a year. Now when I plug it in to charge, the two lights by the heartrate monitor flash a few times and then everything goes dead and it doesn't charge. It's been plugged in overnight.
Any ideas what the problem could be?

My Fitbit band is not charging even though I was using regular. It has a problem of connection I got fed up so it has to be discarded now. It’s charging point is so sensitive it is no use. There must be a good connection system for charging. I have to go for other good brands now. I will discard it now. Forget it the band will get better later.

I just dug my HR from the drawer. It was totally dead and probably has been for 2 years. I put it away because it was not charging and I got annoyed with it. I plugged it in last night and the lights flashed.
* I left it charging all night and made sure the app was up to date.
* I also made sure to get the updates the app told me the HR needed.
* It could be your charge cable not getting a good connection. I used a different charge block this time from what I use in the past.
I think I have been up and using it 2 hours now and so far it seems to be okay. Good luck!

There are plenty of cables on amazon and ebay.
However if the battery has been dead for 2 years, you probably killed the battery.
