Fitbit fabric reset

A fitbit help article show the following steps to reset the charge 3 to fabric settings:

  1. Attach the charging cable to your tracker and plug the other end into a USB port.
  2. Press and hold the button for approximately two seconds and without letting go of the button:
    1. Remove the charging cable from your tracker.
    2. Wait about seven to nine more seconds after removing the charging cable.
  3. Let go of the button and hold it down again.
  4. After "ALT" and a white screen flash, let go of the button and hold it down again.
  5. After you feel a vibration, let go of the button and hold it down again.
  6. After you see "ERROR," let go of the button and hold it down again.

But step 2 is impossible due to the charger. You can't remove the cable form the tracker without letting go the button. I've also tried to delete the data from my device and restar it, but it does not work. It does not go to fabric settings and it still connected to my account.

I think I found the help article you are quoting and it says for Charge or Charge HR which have different chargers than Charge 3.

I'm guessing you mean "factory", not "fabric, right?

If I I have the right article, it also says "The steps below provide a more complicated troubleshoot known as a "factory reset." Only follow these steps if a Fitbit Customer Support agent asks you to do so or you're following the firmware update troubleshooting steps for a Charge HR."

I urge caution in choosing to do a factory reset. In my experience, it it rare that solves anything, and sometimes causes problems.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
