On May 28 I received the message "We noticed your account was logged into from an unusual location, so for your safety we've temporarily locked your account. Regain access to your account and create a new password here." I always assume such a message is a phishing attempt and I won't click on it. Apparently this time the message was really from Fitbit. I have no idea what happened since they didn't define the "unusual" location but this is not the way to inform me. I should have been told to go directly to Fitbit to deal with the problem. Clicking on unsolicited links is a bad idea.

Hi @TiredofApp here is a copy of what a moderator posted last month:
"Thanks for bringing this to my attention, as well for your efforts in recovering your Fitbit account. I see where you're coming from and I'm sorry that you've gone through this experience. An "account takeover", as described in this help article, is a phenomenon that affects many popular online destinations, including Fitbit for many reasons. Fitbit takes very seriously the security of your account and data and my best suggestion is to report any abnormality that you see in your Fitbit account so we can further investigate and help you with that. You can find more information about how to secure your Fitbit account and data here."
