Fitbit security account

On May 28 I received the message "We noticed your account was logged into from an unusual location, so for your safety we've temporarily locked your account. Regain access to your account and create a new password here."  I always assume such a message is a phishing attempt and I won't click on it.  Apparently this time the message was really from Fitbit.  I have no idea what happened since they didn't define the "unusual" location but this is not the way to inform me.  I should have been told to go directly to Fitbit to deal with the problem.  Clicking on unsolicited links is a bad idea.

Hi @TiredofApp  here is a copy of what a moderator posted last month:

"Thanks for bringing this to my attention, as well for your efforts in recovering your Fitbit account. I see where you're coming from and I'm sorry that you've gone through this experience. An "account takeover", as described in this help article, is a phenomenon that affects many popular online destinations, including Fitbit for many reasons. Fitbit takes very seriously the security of your account and data and my best suggestion is to report any abnormality that you see in your Fitbit account so we can further investigate and help you with that. You can find more information about how to secure your Fitbit account and data here."

I know that Fitbit is concerned about privacy.  You were right to contact me but wrong to ask me to click on a link in your e-mail to change my password.  This is how Phishing works.  It is easy for a shyster to dummy up your website.  You should have told me to go to the Fitbit website where I could find out how to change my password.  I ignored your message because it was suspicious.

@TiredofApp  I posted to the forums, but it also sends you a copy of my post. This is the official Fitbit website. Here is part of one of those articles:

HOW DO I REMOVE DEVICES THAT ARE LOGGED INTO MY FITBIT ACCOUNT?

To help keep your Fitbit account secure, remove or revoke access to devices that:

  • You don't recognize
  • Were used to log in to your account at a location or time you don’t recognize
  • Show a web browser you don’t normally use
  • For instructions on how to remove a device that is logged into your Fitbit account, choose a section below.
    • FITBIT APP
      1. Tap the Today tab

, and tap your profile picture.
      2. Tap Security and Login > Manage Account Access
      3. Tap a device to see more details about the last time a logged-in device was used to access your Fitbit account.
      4. Tap Revoke Access to sign out of your Fitbit account on that device.
