Did this work for you? It did for me, I used all lower case letters and no middle initial, which I don't like, but at least I got rid of my last name being in there twice!!

Best Answer

Yes. No spaces, no caps, no symbols. I used all lowercase and it was accepted finally.

*heavy sigh* Anyone have a solution? My actual name isn’t what I’m trying to edit. The username I’m trying to edit has all lowercase letters. No symbols. (And it’s not my forum name. My forum name, “underwaterlily,” is the username I want for my account.) Are we only allowed to change our usernames once or something? Are these boards moderated by FitBit staff? It’s frustrating!

@SunsetRunner, I change my app username twice annually, from LVinLA to LVinME to let friends I do challenges with know what time zone I'm in, Los Angeles or Maine. This has always worked fine in the past, until a few months ago - I kept getting the "Network Error" when trying to change to LVinLA, which is also my forum name. After a month of repeatedly getting the error, I added numbers to the end and it finally worked. You are supposed to be able to change your username every 60 days, but this doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Unfortunately, Fitbit isn't either fixing the bug, or revealing what the new rules may be,

Thanks for the response! I don't like using numbers in my username, so I tried to change my username using the app on a desktop (in the hope I could bypass the weird bug FitBit has no interest in fixing), and low and behold, someone took my original username *in the last day*. I'm so annoyed. I post in this forum for help, and someone poaches my username? 😕

Yes but I like capital

I know I'm slightly late to this, but I found out why. Instead of giving an error message that says "someone else has this nickname, choose another" it simply says that there's a network error.

I noticed this too and finally got it changed! So weird that instead of saying that this username is unavailable, it gives the weird error... But yay it worked!

This worked for me too. Thanks for doing what fitbit couldn't lol.

Hopefully they will change the error text.

Log out from the Fitbit app.
Check if the Fitbit app is updated in your phone.
Reboot your phone.
Log back in to your account.
Try changing your username one more time.

Regards,

Will
