Hi brains trust,
getting a lot of zone minutes on a new charge 4 including spikes while sleeping that do not match up to my heart rate graph at all. If zone minutes is based on heart rate how is this possible.
updated the app today, restarted the charge 4, no difference so via settings discarded the zone minutes.

@OzLurch Welcome to the Community Forums.
Thanks for the details shared in your post and for the troubleshooting tried prior posting. As you have mentioned, active zone minutes are earned based on your heart rate data. With that being said, bear in mind that heart-rate tracking can be affected by several factors including air temperature and device location on your arm For more information, see What factors can affect my heart-rate reading on my Fitbit device?
In addition, since the restart process didn't help, I suggest trying the following to refresh the connection between your Charge 4 and your phone:
- In the Fitbit app tap the today tab and tap your profile picture at the top left
- Tap Set Up a Device.
- Choose your device and follow the on-screen instructions to continue. You will need to click on replace, because it is already connected.
On a side note, I've moved your post to the Charge 4 board to keep our forums organized.
Hope this helps.

This sounds like the same issue I have had with the Charge 4.
I had spurious active zone minute spikes recorded retrospectively [around 1-2am] triggered by activity later in the day.
The spurious peaks are NOT in the HR record & are NOT recorded in the Time Line showing when your active minutes were earned.
No resolution with the Charge 4; same problem in a replacement & using the app on a different iphone.
FB Support offered me a further replacement. Instead I changed to Charge 5 hoping the problem would not be repeated.
It is repeated & FB support currently investigating again.

This happens with the Charge 5 as well.
I’ve stopped communicating with Fitbit about it. Individuals I’ve communicated with at Fitbit have recognised the problem but I doubt that it is on a formal list of problems to be dealt with systematically.
It’s very annoying & even though the spurious peaks don’t count in your active minute record, it doesn’t give you confidence in any of the data.

I’ve had this problem with two Charge 4s & as it wasn’t resolved, I thought I’d try the Charge 5.
Same problem!
Repeated communication with FB Support. And a replacement!!.
However, it’s clearly an app problem and not a device problem. It’s repeated on different iPhones as well.
I’ve posted on the Charge 5 community as well!
Good luck but I think it’s highly unlikely you’ll get a resolution. FB support is pretty hopeless and you’ll repeat yourself endlessly and have to cope with inane responses that have nothing to do with your problem!!

Hi DStar97.
Don’t expect a resolution to the problem of spurious zone minutes during your inactive sleep period. I’ve had the same problem for two years with Charge 4 & 5, despite numerous updates.
I’ve stopped communicating with FB support about it.
The only positive is that the spurious minutes don’t count in your total.

I've had this issue since the beginning and was quite concerned when I first noticed, thinking I had heart issues. I dismissed it after checking my BPM tab and it never showed this spike. It started on my charge 4 and continues on the 5. Its unfortunate FitBit doesn't address these concerns since it would alleviate some stress.

Agree. They do need to correct it, but an admission of the problem would indicate some empathy with Fitbit users and would be professional.

So glad I found this thread. I also have weird spikes in active minutes while sleeping, usually between 1 and 2am, that do not correspond to my heart rate. I notice that the spikes correspond with my maximum hr during the rest of the day. I was getting concerned that it may indicate sleep apnea until I looked at my heart rate charts that show no change at the time of active zone minutes. I went back through my data and it is pretty much every night since August 2020 I currently have a Sense but have had the same info from the Versa.

So, that makes 4 different Fitbits that people have reported these spurious active minutes. I wonder how many more reports are required before FB Support recognise this problem & consider doing something about it.
I’ve stopped communicating with them about it! I tried for some months but it was clearly going no where!
Last time I looked at this the spurious minutes were not counted in the total daily active minutes.

@Robie1954 I found a thread, but didn't bookmark it, where a moderator acknowledged the problem. No time frame for a fix, though. This is definitely an issue with the zone minute graph. Premium users get a sleeping heart rate graph. I never get a spike like it on my sleeping heart rate graph.

This is happening on my Fitbit luxe as well. Right around 1am, I get a huge spike that can go above 150 but it doesn’t match the heart rate graph in the sleep graph.

The same thread is also on the Charge 5 community.
Looks like an app problem - it happens on so many different Fitbits & on different phones.
There’s just been a new software update - each time there is one I keep my fingers crossed - but I’m always disappointed!!

This happens on my sense! I was really worried and then realised that the actual heart rate reading was showing a normal BPM through the night. I also notice that some periods where I am active and would expect ‘active zone minutes’ are missing so figure that those minutes are being recorded as happening through the night instead. Very strange, wish they would fix this!

New Versa 4 here 👋🏼 same issue. Between 1-2 at night. The fitbit support acts like nothing is wrong.
