Why doesnt working out on machines in the gym show up as activvity

They do, if you manually start the Workout or Weights exercise modes.

 

Gym equipment are all so different in the way they work, that it's not feasible to try and auto-detect each exercise.

Work out...eat... sleep...repeat!
