Heart Rate Zones Wrong

I just did a very strenuous uphill walk that left me gasping for breath, lungs burning. It was the equivalent of 42 floors, took about 25 minutes, and Fitbit is saying that I only spent 7 minutes in cardio! How is that possible when I was out of breath and my heart was pounding for the vast majority of my walk? It says my average heart rate during the walk was 117bpm. It also says I only burned 10 more calories during today’s walk, and spent only 5 more minutes in cardio, than I did during yesterday’s walk, which lasted the same amount of time, but was mostly flat with one small hill that Fitbit said was the equivalent of 8 floors. Fitbit also says my average heart rate during yesterday’s much easier walk was 110bpm, which is only 7bpm less than today’s.

How can two 25 minute walks, one where I climbed the equivalent of 8 floors and the other 42, one of which left me slightly out of breath for a couple of minutes, the other where I was out of breath almost the whole time, burn the same amount of calories and have almost the same average heart rate?!

I’ve tried setting a custom Max heart rate in the app, but it keeps resetting, which I see is a problem a lot of people have had. I tried doing it in the website instead of the app as people suggested, but it still doesn’t change it in the app.
