Heart rate tracking accuracy

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I just started HIIT training and my Fitbit Charge 2 doesn’t accurately measure my heart rate. Not even close. My Polar will display 137 and my Fitbit says 90. I tried pushing it another inch up my arm and it didn’t help. Very disappointed that my workouts aren’t tracked. Anything out there that will do the job?

Hi @JND22, welcome to the Community Forums!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and the details that were shared in your post. To explain you how the heart rate tracking of your Charge 2 works, I'd like to share with you that when your heart beats, your capillaries expand and contract based on blood volume changes. To determine your heart rate, the optical heart-rate sensor in your Fitbit device flashes its green LEDs hundreds of times per second and uses light-sensitive photodiodes to detect these volume changes in the capillaries above your wrist. Then your device calculates how many times your heart beats per minute (BPM). The optical heart-rate sensor detects a range of 30-220 BPM.

We use green LEDS because they maximize the signal detected from the capillaries near the surface of the skin. The optical heart-rate sensor also uses infrared light to determine when the device is on your wrist to improve the accuracy of your heart-rate data. If you believe that the heart rate tracking feature of your Charge 2 is not accurate, please check: How do I improve the accuracy of my heart-rate reading on my Fitbit device?

Also, keep in mind that we do not recommend our users to compare the information that's tracked with Fitbits and other tracking devices because they may use completely different algorithms to track such data.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.
