I have been for a few hikes lately and find that the distance recorded seems to be too much. Is the distance measured by counting the steps or by GPS.
I did one yesterday, For the uphill hike, I had the tracking set to walk. The track signs had said 3.5 km. My Fitbit map said I had walked 6.77 km. I changed the setting to Hike on the way down. and got 5.66 km. I had more steps going down.
Who do I believe?

Best AnswerAuto uses your height, age, gender and what else to come up with a stride that should be what an average person with these stats may have. If your not built like an average person then the calculated stride may be not correct.
Fitbit may not change the stride between hike and walk. I'm not sure.
