Inaccurate stats

I have a Charge 3, over a year old and in terms of exercise, is almost exclusively used on a treadmill, occasionally swimming in a pool. From the beginning, the kms on the Fitbit were always less than on the treadmill (and not always the same treadmill) by about half a km but more recently they have been markedly different, between 1.5 and 2 km lower.  This leads me to think that the step count could be  inaccurate as well. Also from the beginning, the number of days exercised in a week has never been correct, walking on the treadmill is rarely picked up but run/walking is.

Is it perhaps just as the Fitbit is getting old, or something re the treadmill activity? I love the product and am thinking to upgrade to the Charge 4 but am concerned that I will have the same issues.

Many thanks

Liz

If you are holding hand rail on treadmill, steps often are not counted, leading also to reduced distance measured.

3 options:

  1. Continue holding hand rail, knowing it will still get heart rate so will get calories, even though might not get all steps and distance.
  2. If steps and distance are more important to you, if put tracker in pocket, will probably get better step count and distance, but not heart rate data which is used for calories burned.
  3. Best of both is if you can not hold rail but let arm swing naturally, at least the arm wearing tracker.
Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
